I have had the past couple of days off of work so after spending the past couple of week's cleaning the garage I got the mark in there and started to work on it. I'm going to paint it and fill it with all this crap lying around.

What I have done….-Removed the interior, seats, 1/4 panel's, door panels and center council.
-Removed the bumpers, grille, headlights and taillights.
-Removed the antenna and chrome molding around car (except windows).
-Removed the trim around the windshield and cowling around wipers.
-R&R the door ajar switch's in both doors and installed the interior chrome door handles.
-Installed a 96 EATC because the old one had smashed buttons.
-Fixed the air ride message (thank you JMILES_T for the air ride and door ajar fix).
-Started to finally sand the car down and get it ready for paint. (Starting with 120 grit).

What I'm still going to do….
-Paint the car OEM midnight black, along with the grille, eyebrows over the headlights and taillights and the wiper arms.
-Shave the antenna and emblems on the trunk and bumper.
-Install the LSC bumpers, side molding and OEM HID housings and bulbs.
-Install the 97 LSC seats, door panels, and ¼ panels.
-Install the new gauge cluster with a different center council and new wiper switch.
-Install my lowering springs with a hub conversion, 1 ¼ sway bar, rear polyurethane bushings and the new 18" wheels.
-Fixed the oil filter adapter gasket and CE light.
-Replace a couple of sensors that are easy to get at when the transmission is out.
-Replace the radiator and thermostat
-Relocate the battery to the trunk.
-Swap the built transmission with 2800 9" stall and shift kit over from the old car.
-Swap over the 4.10:1 posi pumpkin from the old car.
-Swap over the couple of light engine mods from the old car.
-LAY TWO FAT STRIPS OF RUBBER IN FRONT OF CITY HALL!!!!!!!!

Its been two years since I have driven a mark, I crashed the last one and it has taken this long to find a new one and get all the right parts for it. I can't wait. The only thing I need is a chip from Geno and I will be set.

Here is the progress so far…

Nevermind I read the whole post now, After I get a gen 2 in a few days I was thinking that I should take my gen 1 gut it and build it for drag racing.

Thanks guys, it will be a few weeks before I can attack it again but I'm hoping for it to be done by June 1st (power tour 2008)

Is there any paint/body guys here, I was just wondering how I should be sanding it I figure go over the whole car with 120 to get the clear and paint off and the do a 220, and then a 600 by hand. Is there any other more prep that I have to do before it gets painted? Other then tape it.

Don't worry Jamie retards need cool rides too!! Jk.

I expect to see it finished at the Beach Party in July... Hoping to see the MN neighbors at the meet. You and Ford-Nut!

Only about nice scenic 4 hour drive for you...

Its allmost 60 bucks out there and 60 back and I have a concert festival that I want to go to, but maybe I can get some one to go with me. I would love to show it off.

You shouldn't have to sand any of it by hand, except maybe the edges just to scuff it up, and don't use 600g just get a piece of red scotch brite.

You see the glue spots in your hood that you sanded down to? You're going to need a VERY good fiberglass sealer or you're going to have to strip the whole thing down bare and have it re-gel-coated. I used a good primer sealer, painted flames, and three days later I's getting ready to wetsand and buff and the chemical in the glue came through and blistered in every glue spot. SO, I stripped all the f'g work back down to bare hood, used "U-POLE" --they use it on motor homes that get in accidents to keep the chemicals from blistering through after the fiberglass is repaired-- good stuff right?!?? NO!! F'g sht only lasted a bit over a year before it blistered through my second flame job. PITA. Really, the solution is to simply NOT to sand down to the glue. I wish I'd known.

Another thing, you see the different colored spots where you sanded? (hood) it shouldn't be small spots you should get a good chunk of each layer of paint off evenly so those spots are a bit bigger, don't be afraid to run your d/a back and forth and forward and back a good arms stroke. It gets tiring but sitting in one spot too long gets seen in the final result. Then if you're picky use a thick primer and block sand the whole car.

Last thing I can think is, spray about 5 coats of clear, so you have plenty to wet-sand and buff on.

Good luck.

Get that glass out of there. Nothin' I hate more than lift taping around mouldings. I'm sure Toph can testify to that.

O2 SENSOR !!!!!!!!!

I have a hard time planning next weekend !
I will Pm Markviiiedrea when it gets closer.
Markviiiedrea knows what I am up against he has seen my house I am under a full remodel

Good luck Markviiiedrea are you doing the power tour ?
Is it going to be ready by Car Craft ?

I think you want too sand all the clear coat off, just not sand were it was flaking off, you need to strip the clear coat, all the white stuff were you are sanding that’s what we used to do at the body shop where I worked at, or you will run into trouble later down the road

Keep after it....try do something on it every day.
If you need that black hood back let me know....I am not going to get mine painted this year like I hoped.
I can always find a different hood.

Looks like you got a good start Eric. Dunno if you've seen/spoken to Chris the last few days, but both of our cars got hit by that hail storm that went through on Saturday.... I'm hoping to have the paint done in time for CC Summer Nats.

sorry to here that I talked to chris the other day sorry for both of you

it looks like your door panels are from a 97 and the rear panels are from a 98, if this is true they are not the same shade of black, it looks that way in the picture. i like the gen 2 door panels on the front though, i see you even changed the inside door handles. looks good. i was going to do the same thing in my 93 because i have all that gen 2 stuff in black also, but i decided i really dont care to do all the work.
