The shaved intake tube and the Helmholtz Resinator. WTF?

You likely had a rough idle before but could never "hear" it.

Try cleaning the MAF, change the fuel filter, inspect the plugs/wires.

i was hoping by the time i got to the bottom of this thread that someone would point out that 97 98 dont have the elephant ear ,so what the hell did you remove?

Yeah, pointed that out over a month ago with no response.

Yeah, that should have said 94... Which is long gone at this point.
I guess you could pull the silencer off the bottom of the the airbox and drill out the front as well.
Or leave the front of the box intact and do a cold air pick up off the bottom of the box. Might work?!?

By elephant ear I thought you were talking about the gen 2 intake.

:D

Because you cut that off too.

Are you trying to be sneeky?

Just cut the entire front off the airbox and leave the frame so it can hold the filter in, never got the "holes" thing LMAO!

Lincolnsonline says theres 2 holes behind the pass. Headlight where u can pick up air. I didnt see these holes but drilled the box anyway. I see a j b weld patch job in my future.

I drilled holes in the front of my airbox, shortly after I had issues with rough/low idle, ran rough at all times I don't know if it's completely fixed yet. But I put duct tape over the holes until I can get them fiberglassed. Also going to say my car needed a complete tune-up, and a new vacuum tee, so maybe the holes in the airbox does not hurt anything. I just covered all my bases, will know if it's fixed as soon as I get the oilpan gasket done.

itll be fixed after a tune up and crap vacuum lines/connectors replaced it sounds like

That's what I'm thinking, I got new wires, plugs, one coil pack (will get the other one soon), the vacuum tee, going to recheck the plugs make sure they are tight and didn't back out any, then check all the vacuum lines. But it runs so much better now, all the power is back just has a slight miss or something at low RPM's under 1500. I'm sure it's simple.

I took the one resonator off and just capped it and left the other one on. Haven't ran into any problems what so ever.

Ditto... Except I removed BOTH, using the leftover plastic from the removed chunks to make cover plates that I then plastic-welded on over the openings with a soldering iron and some additional scrap plastic material as filler.

Works like a charm, no issue with the MAF or anything else.

Thats wierd I got the same rough idle problem after I drilled holes in the box too marco. She ran great before the mod. I thought it was the maf so I cleaned the crap out of it and same thing. Also it takes the car like 7 cranks now to start cold in the morning now.

Upsets me greatly.

The mass air flow sensor on my 94 has a grey connector to remove it. Next to it there was a black connector laying there unplugged so I found the other end and connected it.

Anyone know what this black connector does ?

Without checking, it sounds like the hood tamper switch plug. I might be wrong, but if I remember right that's the only thing with a black plug in that area.
