This user's opinion of the W200:
First of all the W200 already has a successor; the W205 pictured here.
Crutchfield has some good info on it.
The W200 does not lower it's face all the way down like the W205 does and the DVD slot is at the top not the bottom. The Alpine portable navigation looks promising. The unit fits the dash very nicely. I did not install mine personaly so I can't say how hard it was to trim that face plate to fit. I did have to remove the unit in order to get the steering controls to work (my shop could not get the PAC unit to work although all I did was follow the instructions).
Let me say that the DVD playback is great... quality, size, image adjustment. It is very easy to allow playback while driving, and steering wheel control is easy to set (although the buttons must be pressed longer than with stock controls). I used units from PAC to allow these modifications (PAC-SWI-ALP for the audio and PAC-TR-7 for the video) both purchased off ebay.
The audio adjustment is only a little more than basic. It provides bass and treble center frequency adjustment, level adjustment, balance and fade, subwoofer level control, and loudness (on/off). I believe you will need an external audio processor to use Dolby or have 5.1 sound for your DVD's (with the appropriate amp of coarse).
Alpine's full speed control of ipods is great. I plug it in an set the ipod in the glove box. Then the head unit can scroll through all the songs on the ipod. The screen looks similar to the ipods when in this mode and can play songs in the same manner.
There is ample inputs on the unit (camera, navi, and aux I believe). All of which can be disabled so you dont have to scroll through them when switching source from DVD to radio. There is also one video out for another monitor.
The touch screen is very nice to have. I rarely use the remote. The pulse-touch is odd at first but kinda nice. I have mine disabled cause it made noise when I touched the screen. To each their own (there is also a "beep" option). Alpine allows you to change the background as well. You can download premade backgrounds and store 2 in the unit. You can not make your own background at this time. The unit also allows for automatic light level adjustment based on external light level (ie it dims when it is dark outside).
I would say there are two things I dislike about the W200: Limited audio adjustment and it takes a while to eject a disc (5-10 sec.). This is the first double din unit I have owned so moving that screen out of the way could take some time. Check out this item on the W205 if you purchase that one since the face opens farther. This might not affect the eject time but could interfere with your shifter (I believe the radio is above it but it is better to be sure).
Alpine's hardwired navigation is expensive. No word on the cost for their portable unit compatible with the W205 though. Looks very promising to me if you want to have navigation. I would guess the price to be comprable to a Garmin.
Since the install my accessory delay for the radio does not work (car is off = radio is off). I would like to have this delay back but have not had time to tinker with that yet. One of these days I'll have some extra time.
I hope this helps. Keep us updated with pics of that sweet LS.
