I have to laugh at how many people make comments like this. I usually do not comment but I am going to put some insight so maybe some people will have a better understanding and not get so disappointed.
I work in what most call a stealership in the service department, have been in many lines like Audi, Volvo, Ford, Subaru, Hyundai, Mazda, VW.
1st point is cars break!!!
2-your car will break more if not maintained, or you abuse the crap out of it, if you bought it used you don't know the exact history of the vehicle
3-Honda and Toyotas break less usually, there are some exceptions to this.
4-I have a first Gen (2002) which everyone mentions breaks more than second Gen, with my car and my Dad had a 2000 I have only had what I consider normal mechanical issues-window regulators(most manufacturers have this issue), alternator (by the way have 2 amps in car stressing alternator and battery more), valve cover gaskets (again most manufacturers will have this happen)
5-you could have a "bad" one
6- Hack repairs will add to break downs
There will be many years of car repairs if you own a car, if you get overly pissed off get used to it, they will break at the worst possible time, it happens.

I feel like I need to buy an old LS with lots of miles and an abused one at that. I've had 5 ls's and the biggest issue I've had thus far was when my fan motor for my heated seat gave out due to a clogged filter. I very much enjoy this car. And have never had any troubles, but even if something did go wrong id just fix it. For how this car drives and handles it's incredibly cheap.

I would suggest that nobody else post on this thread until the OP posts why he started this thread. If he's a troll, the thread will die without feeding, and if he's feeling the frustration then he'll post why he put this up. From there, we can perhaps try to be helpful.

Every car line is going to have lemons... My last car was a 97 Mark VIII and that thing was a nightmare. I spent more in repairs in 3 years than I did on the entire car. Needless to say, after 4 years I traded it for my 06 LS. Had this one for 3 years now and so far have only had to replace the coils and the EGR valve. Not bad for 3 years! I love this little beast, best car I've ever owned to date as far as maintenance goes.

Being as I was over an hour away from my home, the more reasonable solution was to call for a tow. ...and since that was and hour + I limped it a mile up the road to the casino parking lot and went in for a few beers, might as well I'm not driving anymore. Regardless I had a few beers which led to this post, so sorry to get a few of you guys panties in a bunch. I've owned this car for over 5 years now and it's just getting old to be driving and suddenly the car goes into limp mode because of a coil, countless times.

I digress... Here's what happened in a nut shell: Driving down the road, sudden plume of white smoke, pull off the road, jet of hot steam, phone call.

The plastic coupler for the "upper radiator hose" decided to crack and jettison all the coolant from the system.
If you look closely you can see the crack.
Also about two weeks ago the one rear caliper guide pin seized causing premature wear on the one inner pad. This wore down the pad to nothing and destroyed my one rotor. Since I didn't have all the parts I needed two weeks ago I just bought crappy rear pads and sacrificed them for the time being. In the meantime I bought all new rotors, pads, guide pins/boots and new rear calipers. Thought that since I was already working on the car I should fix my brake problem as well, seems smart.

Heh heh, that is true. However, we have seen trolls from the other make/models here before, and I'm not too good at remembering who owns what. No matter... my own car sprang a leak from that stupid plastic fitting which caused me to redo my entire cooling system. Time bomb there, found that several other plastic parts were crapping out at the same time. The thermostat housing was broken inside and the degas bottle had several cracks in it. Good luck with it all.
