Well I found out the problem I was having with my Mark VIII was an intermediate clutch, $1200 dollars to get my 94' tranny rebuilt. I spoke with Carl Bauman about my trans and he recomended going with a 98' or later tranny for my 94'. I guess I'll be looking around some junk yards and see if I can't get a good deal, otherwise its time for me to move on to something else cuz this crap is already heartbreaking/wallet-busting as it is.

What are your oppinions as to what I should be looking for here, I am limited on budget, so it basically has to be a used trans. I know Bauman says I should go with 98', but he doesn't have a Mark VIII. What year would be the best? 95? Whats too much mileage?

If you can find a decent priced '98 then go for it. That is your best bet. That year tranny has all the upgrades performed to it (factory ones, not performance persay). That is what everyone recommends as an upgrade to any year Mark VIII. :Beer

That sucks!!! But I know how you feel, happened to my 94 last October. I went the extremely cheap route, and found a 94 trans with 80k miles on it for $350. Then I added the 1-2 accumulator, new filter, and use Mercon V. It's held up for about 12k miles now; but it kinda sucks because I've got ALL that horsepower, and am to much of a puss to actually put the pedal to metal. Good luck on what you do...

Thanks guys! So far I have found a 98' trans for $500, but it has 85k Miles on it.... how much is too much?

What do you plan on doing with it? Shooting a 200 shot of nitrous, or daily driver sometimes getting on it. The 98 is supposed to be a bad mamma-jamma, I think equal to the Mustang GT trans. As for the miles, how many does your car have?

Actually the 99-01 Mustang GT tranny would be slightly better than the 98 Mark VIII tranny because it has the new valvebody if i'm not mistaken. Some rewiring will be required however. A 98 Mark VIII tranny should be suffecient for most people.

you complaining about money and you bought 300$ spark plug wires, I paid less for a 1999 transmission oh ya less then 46,000 miles on it.

I paid $199 for my wires and at the time my tranny was working, and I wasn't worried about the $800-1400 price. Thats apples to watermelons. Not to mention, those are the best wires you can buy, and they have a LIFETIME warranty. I don't know how old you are but I'm 22, so thats a lot of warranty I'm getting. Oh and thanks for making me feel better.

Anyway, its a daily driver with a few bolt-ons, I have plans for the (distant) future also but in the next year or so I would have nothing but bolt-ons, maybe 3.73's. I'm getting the concensus that a 98' trans is the way to go? Are they any modifications I have to do, I know someone mentioned something about wiring?

I wasnt trying to rub it in your face about how much I paid but, I just saying look around for a good price, they are out there

Sorry to hear that Luka. I work for a collision center, and get some pretty good deals from salvage yards. Give me a couple days and I'll see what I can do for you. I've been in your place before and it's honestly no place to be.

Thanks Mike, its deffinetly the worst place I've ever been in as far as cars go. Thanks a lot for taking time out of your day for me man, I owe you a brew. And you deffinetly took the bad-ass approach with that 5-speed though, can't say I wouldn't go that route if I had the opportunity, working tranny or not!

I just got an 98 with 50k miles and a one year parts and labor warranty from a salvage yard called greenleaf.com Check them out, they might have what you need.

I tried greenleaf.com.... led me to a random site about custodial management.

Check out http://www.car-part.com to atleast get an idea on pricing. Greenleaf is in their database. 500 bucks for a 98 is very reasonable, especially if it's local and you can pick it up. If you find a really good deal, but it's half way across the country shipping is gonna kill you.

Question about car part, does anyone know if you plug in 98 Mark VIII transmission. Does it only show you 98 trans. or any 4R70W?

What is the difference from a transmission WITH the ID PKE-AD and without it? The tranny I saw for 85k-$500 was WITH the ID? How does that effect my shopping around?
