I took my fwd into a ditch in a bad way after doing 5+ 360's going only 36. FWD can spin just like RWD it just usually isn't caused by throttle action.
I would argue that cars went FWD due to cost (no driveshaft, separate axle unit, etc.). Also lose the issues of shaft balancing,etc. Additionally MOST cars are heavier in front (unlike ls 50/50) so traction under light to moderate acceleration would be better on FWD. Under heavy acceleration RWD gives better traction due to weight transfer.
