So, I just got back from Tire Rack with my new Goodyears. The tires seem great, a little road noise, but not bad. They did a great job on the mount and balance. No vibration up to as fast as I dare go on the roads around here. I'll test it out better on the toll road when I go home tonight.

However, it took 2.5 hours for them to mount the tires for me. Can you believe that? And of course they shredded one of my lug nuts. The guy said, "yeah these kind of lug nuts swell sometimes and we have to drive a socket on to get them off". Funny, I've never had that problem when I've rotated my tires.

Bottom line, the location is awesome, the price was good, the tires were well balanced. But, I'll not be using them again.

In their defense, the lug nuts being "stuck" on these cars is a well known problem. Order a whole new set from O'Reily and be done with it. It'll cost you less than $20 and you won't have to worry about it again.

Funny you should mention that, I just helped my dad get set up with a set of tires from there on monday, I haven't heard the whole story, but I guess it took them 3.5 hours. I have bought a fair amount of stuff from them, and they have always done a great job on the mount and balance, but they do take a long time. My wife waited an hour and a half to get a set of tires mounted on rims that weren't on a car, oh well, what are you going to do.

this the same tire rack as in tirerack.com? they have locations you can go to buy and mount the tires?

Yes but Im sure thats why they do better sales online.;)

Tirerack (yes tirerack.com) has a few locations. Basically, it is just their warehouses. Their headquarters is in northern Indiana. You can order the tires and go to one of the warehouses to have them mounted. Or, get the tires shipped wherever you want. As for pricing I am sure there are better prices out there for most people (I've got contacts there). I was just stunned at the slow service.

One cool item is that the founder of the company spends his entire day there at the service center helping out. A multimillionaire and he is there in the shop instead of on a beach somewhere.

I forgot to mention that I love my new tires. I got to 115 last night and it was as smooth as silk. No vibration at all, and it felt solid. Goodyear Eagle F1 all season. A little more road noise than the OEM tires, but not enough that I care. We will see how they hold up.
