Damn, that's messed up. How the hell did he manage to get it like that? The wheels survived.
Does no one else on here use nitto's? Are they not good tires?

My sister is on her second set with her 99 cougar; they seem to treat her well for an all-season tire.
However, Consumer reports lists the following high performance, H-Rated All season tires as follows:
Dunlop SP Sport 5000
Michelin Pilot Exalto A/S
Falken Ziex ZE 512
Continental ContiProContact
Michelin Pilot XGT H4
Bridgestone Potenxa RE950
BFGoodrich Traction T/A
Yokohama Avid H4s
Sumitomo HTR H4
Bridgestone HP50
Michelin Energy MXV4 Plus
Goodyear Assurance TripleTred
Kumho Solus KH16
In V-Rated:
Michelin Pilot HX MXM4
Yokohama Avid V4s
Michelin Pilot Exalto A/S
Continental ContiProContact
Falken Ziex ZE 512
Michelin Energy MXv4 Plus
Bridgestone Potenza RE950
BFGoodrich Traction T/A
There were more tires listed, but they are in decending order as for ratings, so once they got to a point where they didn't do very well in any of the catigories, I just stopped listing them.
I'm sure I'm breaking some kind of copy right laws here but it's not any different than if I let you barrow my copy of the ratings!
Anyway, Note-able tires:
All Weather conditions:
H-Rated:
Dunlop SP Sport 5000
Michelin Pilot Exalto A/S
Falken Ziex ZE 512
V-Rated:
Michelin Pilot HX MXM4
Michelin Pilot Exalto A/S
Continental ContiProContact
I hope all this helps out. Remember, all listings are in DECENDING order; best at the top, worst at the bottom. Good Luck and remember, the higher the speed rating, the more you're going to sacrifise on winter weater traction.
CR does well (though not in my experience) rating toasters and refrigerators, but when it comes to cars or tires, I would take their recommendation with a grain of salt. They care more about how the tires affect the environment than how well they let you, shall we say, exercise them. IMHO, CR is good throne reading, nothing more.
I had a set of Pilot Sport A/S, 245/45/17 on stock wheels. They lasted all of 12K miles. The centers were worn out running 32psi. I have had good service from (don't laugh) General Exclaim UHPs. I got ~22K from them and they were quiet during their whole life. Were my LS not lowered at the time (my daughter is learning how to drive in my LS so I put the factory springs back on) I believe they may have lasted longer. I am in the process of getting my 18" Voxx wheels chromed and will put the Exclaims on when I get them back.
I think that's a bit harsh of a synopsis of CR; I've always had good luck with them; they rate the BFG All Terrain's pretty high, and everyone know's the rep those tires have. They rate the Bridgeston Blizzak's very high; again, everyone know's the rep those tires have. I won't dispute your own experiance, but I think CR does about as good of a job being neutral as possible. As for vehicle reliablity and what not; it's hard data, you can't really dispute it. Take a look at the ratings for the LS... LOL, very accurate!
