Any suggestions for new tires other than the Firestons Firehawk LH. 17" They seem to be noisy and don't wear well.

First: 245/45/17's were a factory option and your choices are much more plentiful in that size (Cheaper Too). Second: What is your primary type of driving?

Best all around would probably be Michelin Pilot Sport A/S.
Goodyear F1's are great summer tires that last a while.
Looking to go cheap?
Fuzion ZRi's, Falken Azenis, Nitto's and General's are all very good, bang for the buck tires.

255/45/17's are what a lot of members are running and they work and look great too.

Hey thanks for the help, your saying that all those tires will fit my factory 17" rims. I don't drive the LS that hard but do take it up to 100 MPH once in a while. I live in Boston, MA so I do need all season tires. I think the firestones are a litt le expensive and I would like to save some dough.

If you are trying to save some money 245/45/17's are probably your best bet. Very plentiful due to all the Mustangs running around. Tire Rack has the Pirelli PZero Rosso's for $118.00 each, Avon Tech M500's for $101.00 each (Wow is that a good price), General Exclaim UHP's for $86.00 each and Avon Tech M500 A/S for $108.00. All great and affordable choices.

I just bought some Sumitomo HTR4's from Tirerack for $78/tire. I went a little narrower at 225/55HR17. There are a lot more choices in this size too and they are well within the size range for the stock rims.
The reviews were very good for these tires. They are very quiet and do not wander like the crap tires that the last owner had installed(Grand Spirit's).

Looking around, found some Fusion HRI,s all season for $84.00, seems the ZRI's are a summer tire, not good for me. Sounds like a good tire.

all season tires are horrible. One size fit's all... never really fits anyone the way it should...

Whats better, running summer tires in the winter, or changing tires twice a year?

I love the Michelin Pilot Sport A/S. I am on my second winter with these and they are not guite as good in snow as the first winter. But on snow days, my wife drives me to work in her 4X4. (I think that answers dtangerini's question.)
The price of those Avons would make me think twice, though. Avon has been around a long time in U.K.

I had the avon tech m550 or whatever the all seasons are. Paid $100 each. One failed roadforce out of the truck...replaced good. These tires had decent traction, a bit squirrely on handling, compared to the firehawks. But what really blew me away, was that their tread cupped badly and became horrendously noisy. They got so bad that on a slight hill, if you stopped, and let the car roll in neutral, you could actually FEEL the tire cupping through the suspension! The noise level at speeds over 10 mph was so bad, my ears would ring on a 10 minute ride. I would not buy those tires again. Oh and, they made me look forward to mounting my 16" snows and wheels, to get the car quieter!

+1 for anyone who recommends dual tire setups for those who need to drive in snow. I have 17" sport standard wheels and 16" normal wheels for the snows. This is on a 2000 manual-equipped V6 sport.

I also needed to add, I got 5 complete winters out of my first set of snows and am on my second winter on my newest set of them.

Yup, changing tires twice a year. I do it.

Once you use winter tires, you'll never again feel safe on all seasons

Another vote for changing tires with the seasons. I have been on both sides, swapping tires (dedicated summers/dedicated winters) when I lived in Vermont and drining in all kinds of crappy weather in Vt when I drove my SHO up from Virginia Beach while living there. If you vacation for a week or two in the snow belt, stick with a good all season (plus a set of sticky's for playing ind good weather). If you spend alot of time in and out of snow and slush, swap them out.
