Took the 05 LS8 to the track today. Times inside...

thats crazy .. great man .. i`m sure u caught some peoples attention..lol. especially after u took out a gto... but if u are on street tires u should try runnin without doin a burnout . i may be wrong but if u heat up street tires, dont they loose traction? and just the opposite with slicks? lemme know if i`m wrong people...but thats great man.. i`ll be like u oneday.. lol..

The burnout helps even street tires. It just doesnt take as long to heat them up to optimum temp (for the rubber compound) as it does a slick tire.

Update...

The LS did 14.4 in the 1/4 about a week and a half ago. It still has more left in her. We will see what I can whittle the times down to this coming weekend at the meet!

I'm going to run my '01 LSV8 at the track in the next week or two. I plan on having performance tires (possibly 18" rims if I get them at the right price) custom flowmaster exhaust, ram air intake, the Xcal2, and the usual octane booster, weight reduction etc. I have a scanner and I'll post the timeslips after I get out there. My buddy has a video camera so hopefully we'll get it all on video as well. Hopefully it will be this weekend, but I'm not making any promises!

Cool. Glad to hear your planning to take a little vid also. Yeah, I wish I had a scanner to post pics of my timeslips too. Oh well, the videos will have to do. This coming weekend outing should make for some good video.

Ran the Explorer tonight actually. Absolute horrible traction! I am in SEVERE need of DR's or slicks! The truck has 13.4 in it while detuned but the best ET I could make it muster tonight was a 13.7 @ 98 mph. I had to feather the throttle sooooooo much off the line it was rediculous. I also paid some ricer dude to swap me places so I could run a LS2 GTO. I absolutely MURDERED that GTO! Take a look at a few of the vids.

KBX-137-ET

KBX-vs-LS2-GTO

Enjoy! Soon enough I will put the race engine (already ordered) and built tranny in it and along with the swapped rear end I will be able to repulley the supercharger and run 20psi @ over 600+rwhp. It will be really fun then!

i love that youre playin sweet home alabama! I always play that when were stagin!

Well Jason and I hopped out to the track again tonight for a while and had a lot of fun seeing some really fast cars race. There were really slow ones too but we payed them no attention.

We also ran the LS's a few times too. I got another new best in the 05 LS. I turned a 14.3 @ 98 MPH. :) On my first run of the day I almost hit a 2.1 60' time. I only missed it by .014 seconds!

Next weekend for me...nice kill with the GTO. Too bad you weren't lined up against him with the LS. Your 14.3 beatin that GTO's 14.4!

That would be sad wouldn't it? hehe.

AWESOME ROCKET!! I will go with you one of these days. Im still finishing up on remodeling my house, but after that my weekends will be free.

I picked up nearly .3, I was actually expecting to only pick up .1-.2 and would of been happy with a high 15.1 My best was a 15.041 @ 93.21 with a 2.269 60'. Rest of runs were 15.1s and 1 15.2 with wheel spin and early 1-2 shift. Rockets car is a very impressive runner, damn you Gen IIs. I happy thou may car is running faster than expecting with the 20s still on, its actually running faster than expected 20s or not. Stock rims and 14-8s are likely and a tune 14.6, thats a stretch but going to find out.

Sounds good! I want to see what another similarly modded new gen LS will be able to do? I don't think my times are all that special yet, but I am curious to see how it compares.

Yeah I think I was almost more satisfied when I seen your car run 15 flat than when I ran my new best. Your car does have a lot of potential left in it. I want to see what it can really do after everything is said and done.

Would bringing an LS V6 to the track be a mistake? I'm more interested in running my LS on a track to experience the handling with some speed.

Think I would get laughed off the track since it's not a beafy V8. Actually the 04 V6 has 232hp, compared to the older V8 that has about 270ish. Ya I know it's not all about HP, torque has a lot involved.

Anyway...let me know

Thanks

At the track we go to, depending on the night, there are some pretty slow cars. A slow run isn't as bad as someone that drives stupid, can't tree, etc. Take it and have fun.

You're not going to get to experience any handling since it's a straight line and you're only gonna get up to about 85mph or so.....but it's still fun.

+1. dont fel bad for not having a fast car. We see some SLOOOOOOOOOW cars there. Like Jason said, just make sure you follow the simple track etiquette and you will be fine.

While you won't be able to get a feel for the handling characteristics for your cars cornering ability, but it is still fun to go out and see what your car can do in a straight line. ;)
