2005 Lincoln LS V8 in the car I separated the engine and transmission when we pulled the engine out the torque converter came with it (even though I unbolted it from the flex plate) when we put it back together I had the torque converter fully splined and since I have added transmission fluid to the proper level and made sure the computer was good the car will lurch going from 25 to 50% throttle will rev up and then engage putting you in the seat and shifts a little rough especially at higher rpm’s what did I do wrong please help

Blown head gasket and was severely overheated multiple times so I figured I would just replace it there was a strong possibility it’s could’ve warped the heads

Did the replacement engine come from a 2005 model year LS? The build date is on the VIN sticker near the windshield pillar near the top door hinge.

Not sure what you mean by torque converter was fully splined. The TC is not "keyed" and nether is the input shaft. You would not be able to bolt the engine and tranny together if the input shaft didn't fully seat inside the torque converter.

At this point I would double check the shifter cable adjustment... and the transmission range sensor (neutral safety switch) adjustment.

Or... if the replacement engine isn't actually a 2005... you may have some wiring incompatibilty issues.

The engine may have been from an 06 however all the wiring harness was exactly the same and the shifter cable might be the issue because is rough moving it in and out of gear especially park there is not engine light however thanks for your help

Well if the engine is from an '06... you may have a PCM compatibility issue... but it sounds like the shifter cable and range sensor needs adjustment.

How so and what do have to do to fix it? I'm getting ready to put a 2006 motor in my 03.

My comment was speculative. to the OP. Joe would lnow better than I... if there is any incompatibiliy.

However SG... 2003 was a "transitional year" for the LS... and it seems there were parts that only fit/worked with that year.

Member Dale Grib ran into a few issues with his 2003... not related to an engine swap.

Right on, well I'll cross my fingers then, thanks.

How did you check the transmission fluid level?
It's a bit fiddly to do correctly.

I'm still pleading with you to find a low mileage well taken care of 06' and use your 03' for a parts...lots of these cars out in the world waaaaay cheap

You're probably correct, but I've got too much into this one already and don't wanna start over fixing another one. All I'm gonna need next is the transmission rebuilt, then it's gonna be nearly all brand new, ha
