Torque Converter

tell me why i should spend money for a shift kit, when i can do the j mod for free... if i mess up the jmod - then i can justify buying a shift kit.

Jmod does the same thing as the shift kit correct?

the bc doesnt list prices - anyone know how much they go for, the race one and the pro series one from BC automotive?

Around $900-950 for the 9.5' BC automotive one which is of the highest quality. They also have a 10' one which is very nice as well and cheaper.

I know exactly what the jmod does, you simply modify the sperator plate allow more fluid to flow through the valve body, not modifying the valvebody but you do have to dissasemble it.

I simply chose to have a profesional mess with the valve body for me, it was my choice and my money.

My BC Auto valvebody was like $250 total after shipping and everything included.

Darrin has a new supplier for his torque converters that can finally build exactly what he is asking for. I will be buying one of the 9.5" units this summer.

With be controls you do mod the vavle body and this helps with torque correction for a longer lasting tranny also has some up graded parts

That converter is a Circle D product I beleive, I think I'm gonna drop one of them in my vic, and put the 9.5" in the Mark.

Yeah Lonnie told me the 10" TCs were from Circle D and the 9.5" is from another manufacturer but I cant remember who.

The 9.5 is from a new guy on the scene, I talked to Darrin about it, he says the new guy is Awesome.

I don't want to say how much to be fair to different vendors but a good converter ain't cheap. Count on at least $500 or more depending on your needs

fair what do you mean fair its a free market economy we dont live in China! Capitolism baby!

i called bc or whatever they sell their base racer one for 725 plus shipping. seems like a pretty beastly unit.

boc entry level one is 500 bones - anyone rockin this? they also got a bumped up one for an extra hundred. and other steps above that.

ive read of an edge piece? not sure about that one any info would be helpful.

Anyone rockin anything different besides these?

ok fine. dam

I order the $500 10" one from BOC. I have talked to a few people and think the billet front cover is added weight that I would not benifit from in a mostly stock car i dont plan on revin to 7k+ very often. My car is driven daily so I wanted something that will act close to stock for the m-f commute

thanks Rich! what stall do you have it set at? Can you adjust it with these aftermarket units? Or is those things once you set it, its set in stone and a big pain of you ever wanted to adjust it. say 3200 for daily 4k for track etc.

As for having the Mark unit customized for a higher stall... anyone done this?
And as for the original poster with the thundermark, why not go Tremec! You got the added benefit of a manual option with those birds!

I ordered a 3500 stall. The stall speed can not be changed without removing the TC from the car and cutting it open and reworking internals. Not something you would want to do yourself or very often for that matter.

As for reworking the stock unit it can be done but after market units are designed for more abuse. Among other things there is a lot more friction material for the lock up clutch, sometimes anti ballooning plates, better bearings etc. For a stock car a reworked stocker may be fine but IMHO it's worth the extra money to get an after market unit.

great lolol, no i dont think he wants a manual, its too tough to be consistent at the track, not to mention he has always said he cant shift fast enough

As I posted before in this post I have I think he got it to 2800 for under $170
that is worth it to me with how tight money is for me much cheaper than $700 for the one I want and before you say I could get by with a $500 unit why If I mod later I would need the better one then any way

I'm looking at it now. Actually dropping the car off tomorrow to have the new trans installed along with it. I still have to order gears and a trac lok so I don't know how much fun it will be with the stock 3.07 open rear end.

I should have some feedback by Monday for you. I'm out of town from tomorrow afternoon until Saturday night.

mark8 stock converter stall(93)

and does anybody know what the stock converter stall is on a 2002 mustang gt,,I heard 2500??? cause I have both mk and stang both out of a 4r70w of course, and I am changing my trans and want to put the converter with the bigger stall of course

Well I picked the car last night. It got a fresh beefed up trans along with the converter. I did not flash it with the Xcal and I just ordered the gears and trac lok a couple days ago, so the car is totally stock beyond the converter and trans mods.

You can tell when you take your foot off the gas the car does not want to creep like stock. And I am not crazy about how it feels trying to drive normal. You definitely have to give it more gas then stock especially on any incline. I think gears might help this a little and once I get used to it I don't think it will bother me as much. The trans hunts between 2nd and third unless you give it a decent amount of throttle, but I think that will be taken care of with the new tune once I have a chance to flash it. It seems like once it hits third the TC locks up and the rpms drop to much and it downshifts back to 2nd.

The good part though is the car rips compared to before. The open 3.07 rear is killing me though as it will much more easily spin a tire buy just punching it from a stop. I have to take of easier before I put my foot into it. Best part is after about 75 miles the mileage is showing 13.8 and still climbing. I was at 15.7 before so if I can get to over 14 with the new TC and not keeping my foot out of it I will be quite happy. I figure the Xcal will give me a mpg or two back and the gears might actually help since most of my driving is around town. That is if I can start driving normal again with all the newfound fun under the right foot.

Edge = CRAP! I had to get mine rebult with less the 1000 miles on it, they wouldent warenty it, said "our prouduct cant brake" I will never by from them again and to any one else is thinking about it, save the money and go somewhere else!

Ok I feel better. sounds good, you will love it when you get gears, it will really wake the car up with the right stall
