Just bought our 00 LS V6 without knowing anything about it. :slam It was going through the auction block and I just walked up to it when the bidding started and it was within my budget so I started bidding (assuming it would go out of my budget). After I won the dang thing I started freaking out because I didn't know anything about these cars.
So I was looking underneath it and noticed it was rear wheel drive and assumed my wife would be upset since she like FWD in the snow. I told her it has traction control so we should be OK, but does it really help that much??

How does it actually work in the snow and ice? My last RWD car (90 T-bird Supercoupe) sucked BIGTIME in the snow. I hope this gets around much better.

Thanks

Down here in Fl it works great in the snow :). Actually it has saved my butt on more than one occassion on the slick wet streets and when I had a blow out once.

I tend to disable itmore often than leaving it enabled. On every occassion that it saved my butt I had forgot to disable it. So far I have been very pleased with it.

Congrats on the purchase. It can become a car you will love to hate. But since you know about LvC now it will be much bearable especially if you can turn wrenches.

Even if the car didn't have traction control the LS performs very well in the snow for a RWD car. Maybe cause it weighs so much

hey I'm in NJ and I have only a minor issue with tc in the snow.

See having had RWD all my life (and having run rally), I like it steer the car in the snow with the throttle.
With the TC turned off in the

But to put it another way, my wife loves the TC in the LS and since it is her daily car, that is all that counts.

It is nothing like a supercoupe which had no TC.

There are apples and pineapples (LS,bmw, audi, etc), Pomagranites (Mustangs, supercoupes and GTO's) and then there are Rat turds (FWD anythings)

FWD handling = Biggest Joke ever.

With good weight distribution better in the snow than a lot of RWDs if it has the right tires. Get four good snows (used rims are cheap on E-bay) I use 16 inch rims since the snow tire selection (215-60-16) is greater and I'm a fan of narrow tires in the snow. Yes you give up clear road handling but its only for three months (mid Dec - mid March). Mine is used for skiing almost every weekend from December through May 1st.

Oh and I do only have driver controlled (through the right pedal) traction controll.

JES LS I have no idea what you tried to say.

I guess if it snows too much she can drive the ole Rusty Ranger, lol.

LOL Very confusing post, I read it over a few times and now i feel dumb

my point was totally missed.

I like the ls,
I think the TC is great for the average driver.

however, I am not the average driver and do not panic the moment the rear might hint at steppiing out. I welcome it. I'm sideways a lot in the snow and having fun.

I just wish the ls came standard with a limited slip diff in the rear. Having the right tire spin itself to death because the tc is off and there is nothing to make the rear push is a pain.

My end statement was that my wife loves the Tc/stabilitrak and had no problems this winter with the weather.

Lots of good advice here. If all else fails, just tell the wife that people did just fine in the snow with RWD for 70 years, and cops still do it! Having skinnier tires helps, and even throwing something heavy in the trunk can help. I haven't driven my LS in the snow, but I never had a problem with my Chrysler, and it definately does not have traction control.

It works very well, I have been using traction control since 1964, and have never been stuck. When I lived in Conn. I had an extra pair of Studded Tires that I would put on in the winter, and they plus the traction control worked great.
