SUCKS on my car!

Is this a common issue with all the Mark's?

I can still bust the right rear tire loose on the pavement, especially wet!

I drove it for the first time in the snow and JUST driving in a straight line I thought the car was gonna try to do a 180 on me! The rearend was trying to go back and forth on the road!

is there a fix?
 
First it only works at certain speeds. Second, its traction ASSIST, not traction control. Its just meant to help a little, not make up for a poorly skilled driver.
 
Gee, I came across harsh :) Sorry. But ya, these cars are big yet strong, they do not do well in snow even right off the factory line.
 
It is so useless imo that I just turn it off every time I get in the car....

The tune I have shuts off the timing retard associated with the traction control, but the brakes still kick on.
 
Gen 1 T/A is poop and only operates up to about 30 MPH or so.

I have my O/D wired to my T/A so i can turn them on and off together! Yay! (normal driving i leave both on, but when i want to 'get on it' I press the button and bingo!:))

I liked it for actuating the ABS when i needed to bleed the pump after replacing some lines, but other than that, it's useless. I guess a T Lok, good tires and driver mod are best. Maybe some extra weight in the trunk too. I dare say unity's trunk mounted battery helps the light back end, some.
 
I would suggest putting the car in 2nd manually in the snow. Does wonders. That and driving with the big toe. The brakes work wayyyyy better then the pedal on the right in nasty weather.

Do not put your tranny in anything besides D, and turning OD off if you beat on the car.
 
Oh noes, I put it in 2 *hides behind brick wall and waits for explosion of transmission parts*! Actually, I just do that to get it going. If the trans can't handle that, then the poor thing wasn't meant to be anyway. I would never suggest keeping the poor thing in 2nd gear and turning that gear blue and 1000 Kelvin.



I understand the weak OD band, and the fact that 1st and 2nd gear will get burnt out if they're driven in for duration. None the less, I take advantage of the slow onset of torque by manually putting the car into second when I would otherwise be in a ditch:eek: ....

You can put your trans in any gear you want.... but I wouldn't do it for risk of shortened life...

I personally wail the piss out of my car and want my trans to last as long as possible.
 
I plan to get tires on it this weekend...

I figured it wasn't made to completely control the traction, but man I thought it would be just a bit better.

I'd like to put a trac-loc in it too.

Probably also doesnt help that my front bags deflate while driving and all the weight is on the nose! :lol:
 
starting off in second gear wont hurt your trans...especially in a frozen road scenario.

now I wouldn't do any WOT dragstrip launches starting in second..not because it'll hurt the trans..because it's simply pointless.

It aint gonna kill it.. to creep away from a stop in second.

Ford engineers couldn't have been that stoopid. There's a term in the lean manufacturing world. Mistake proofing. If an engineer allows for a scenario to be easily selected that appears close to normal operating procedures however results in catastrophic failure, the engineer did not create an adequate system. If it is a huge issue to put the car into 1 or 2, ie. failure of the transmission very prematurely, then those gears should NOT be selectable.

On that note, how bad is it to launch in D then pull the gear select back to 2. I have heard it cuts out the 1-3-2, but have never tried it at WOT. I have tried it at partial throttle, around 4000rpm nearly chirps the tires.
 
I have driven in 2nd gear in winter conditions for years with the Mark. I keep under 30 but at times have even shifted down to 2nd from 3rd to increase breaking power.

I think there is even info on this in the owners manual maybe?

it's not.. I did that frequently in many of the 6000 dragstrip passes that I made... when the trans failed it had a shudder in reverse, not any problem with any of the forward gears.

nothing I did at the dragstrip caused any problems with my engine or trans.
 
I also use 2nd gear to start out in my T-bird witch is worse in the snow than the mark was (more torque down low) and did tons of launch in D then shift to 2nd never hurt my tranny. Also in the winter I use down shifting to aid in breaking in bad conditions helps put the car in a straight line.
