I've been getting stutter at the shifts for awhile, and it's getting worse, so I'm assuming at the least I need a new TC..., I figure I might as well have a complete rebuild as well.
I don't entirely underst ths stall speed, and I'm not sure if I want hard shifts...
These trannies seem to have problems from the factory, so I don't think I want a stock rebuild, or maybe a replacement.

do you mean like a vibration when shifting?

if so ,you might first want to add a friction modifier to your fluid, unless you already have mercon v in there.

if it is not mercon v ,this might be your problem,

I honestly have no idea what's in it, I had it changed last October, I wasn't home so the wife took it to a tranny shop, I was haveing a problem with it downshifting at cruise speeds, witch turned out to be the position switch...
Might be worth a try...

When does the shutter occur.... Mine was around 45 mph... took a while to shift... first I tried a tranny flush with mercon V... didn't solve the problem. TC needed replacing...

That would be pretty close, if I let off the gas it gets buy pretty good.
I figure it probly needs TC at a minimum and it's got @140K so new clutches are probably due.
That brings me to the questions of upgrading it.

after two art carr trannys and a lot of lost time and bs i would not buy thier

products

If you don't have any fluid leaks, and no whinning sounds coming from the case, you might consider just changing the torque converter and saving a thousand dollars.

Ok, that's a thought I hadn't evan considered... So... do I wan't a stock replacement or a high performance part??
This car see's mostly highway miles at around 2K rpm (80mph), I average 27+ right now on regular pump gas, and I know it's capable of 30.
I don't need anything that will run the quater in 9, or evan be the first off the line, but when I'm on a two-lane and there's 6 cars in front of me, I wan't all the power I can possibly get.
I've got the next few weeks of, so now's the time for me to do any mod's...

Since transmission don't make power, they just transfer it, my understanding is that a torque converter isn't going to make any significant difference when passing on the highway. The advantage would appear to be primarily at launch off the line and on aggressive upshifts. And this statement might be flame bait, but higher stall speeds mean more heat, more heat means faster wear- meaning you'd need a substantial transmission cooler.

Personally, if the transmission is still good, it sounds to me like you should pull the tranny, replace it with a good torque converter (i've heard the Ford one from the Marauder is excellent and there are supposed to be some good builders within the community), maybe install a shift kit and a transmisission cooler along with a complete thorough flush with Mercon V. That's the most cost effective thing I can think of. This'll still be expensive to have done, but less than a new custom unit with a quality TC with a high stall speed.

Unless you want to spend around $2500 for a new unit.

Ok, would the Stall speed be similar to slipping the clutch, up to it's ratted speed then??, and would it still lock up evan if you never reached that speed??
I guess I'm a little nervous about the old linings comming apart and ruining a new Torque Converter....
My truck blew the pinion gear and scrapped the whole tranny @ 50K, that was $2800 for a rebuild...
