Just thought I'd post this problem I had with my conti. I had the trans flushed friday, and by tuesday I was getting something like a studder only at a constant speed, as i you were just trying to get the car to go 50 and only 50 you could feel it. From what I found in the forums it sounded like the converter was locking up. So I took it back to fords and told them what was going on. They flushed it again and test drove it, said it was a engine miss causing it, number 8 cylinder. So I changed the coil pack and the plug and now its gone. Just thought I'd post it in case someone else runs into this problem.

They were also able to pull this code with no check engine light on.

yup, can happen..

just a note, you dont need a check engine light to have a code stored... you can also pull the codes at anytime.. so if you think your having a problem, its cheap and easy to pull the codes 1st!!!

Hello!, I am new to the forum!
Just bought a '91 with 66K miles, The car is Perfect!
It does have 2 issues. The first is what groundzero298 described above, The car runs beautifully at low speed, but sometimes (not always) runs rough at 50+. It sounded like an ignition issue to me...
It also has the "Rear end sits down overnight" issue, I think that the bags need replaced.
Michigan, I see you have a '91, What do yopu think about the engine peoblem?
Thanks!

your right on the rear airstruts needing replacement. they only last 10 yrs or so...

the misfire... could be a few things. do the basics first (new plugs/wires/cap/rotor), they fix a lot of intermittant missfires.

also, change the fuel filter, especially if the problem is more noticed or pronounced at higher speeds (starving for fuel is a possibility). Last intermittant missfire I had was caused by wires/rotor/cap/plugs (all changed at the same time).

I had a misfire in my 91, but it was alll the time. I had a rocker come loose and moved off the valve. immediatly before that happened, it sounded like I had a bad lifter tick.

Thanks for the reply!
Yes, I plan do do all of that. Thanks for recommending the Fuel filter replacement. I had a problem with a Cadillac a while back, and it turned out to be a clogged filter.
Where is the fuel filter on that car... Please don't tell me it is in the gas tank, like my last Dodge....
The engine runs well, No ticks..

there is a sock on the pump in the tank, but thats not the one I am referring too.

I *think* (its been a while since I looked) its on the inside of the driver side of the 'frame rail' (car is a unibody, but it has bracing under it in spots), near the rear door. it might be on passenger side in same area. its about 2 inches in diameter (or so), and about 3 or 4 long.

again, my swiss cheese memory is workin hard here, but thats what I recall seeing.

That is where GM put it on my '87 Caddy. I will do that first. Thanks for all your help! I'll post and let you know if that helped.
Have a Happy and Safe New Year!
