I was driving my 04 ls when I seemed to loose power and then my tranny threw the infamous E, I was worried that something went with the tranny but when I plugged in my OBD reader there was to many trans codes and an egr code, so I checked and saw that they share the same fuse, I replaced the burnt fuse and it shorted instantly on startup I unplugged the egr, and the same thing happened , I'm hoping someone can give me some ideas without having to pull the solenoids.

Solenoids really dont short out fuses that often on these cars (atleast from what i read.) Does it only short when you put the car into Run/with the engine on? Does it short when you're in ACC mode? Check for any lingering water or corrosion in the wiring harness coming from the fusebox.

Please give the exact fuse number and which box it is in. I can look up exactly what is on that circuit for you.

F1.06 goes to:
Brake pressure switch (this is the part that was shorting and causing car and truck fires a few years back)
Evap canister vent valve
Evap canister purge valve
EGR module
IMRC solenoids 1 and 2 (V6 only)
Transmission solenoids

It's only powered in the run and start positions of the key.

I think it's unlikely to be a solenoid, but not impossible. More likely is a pinched wire somewhere.

The first step is to unplug as many of the above items as is practical. If the fuse doesn't blow then, plug items back in one by one until it does. This will narrow down where it is. If it still blows with every thing disconnected, then it's a wire shorted somewhere.

Ok thanks for the advice , I thought that only the tranny and egr were on that fuse.

Thanks again it seems like the wires connecting to the male plug of the imrc valve is bad, does anyone know where I can get a male plug pigtail for that, also there is what seems like oil on the outside of the valve , where can I get a new gasket for it.

Have a pic of the connector or other info, I may be able to find one for you.

Hi thanks again, I unplugged the IMRC valves and the short is gone :) .
I have attached pics of the plug if anyone knows where or if I can get a pigtail for this would be great, if not I guess I'll just try to hack something together.

Any number on it? I can get that series of connector and put wires in it for you, but the keying on the connector makes a major difference, have to be 100% on it.

I'm guessing it's a Tyco...and I can get them as samples through work.

The only numbers I can see on it are pbt-gf15,I wasn't able to find anything online, if anyone can tell me how to rewire such plugs I might be able to do it.

You pull the lock out, that's the yellow thing.

After that there will be a tang inside the connector that you push away from the terminal and pull the terms out the back.

The way it looks you could just grab the terms and pull out from the top though.

I know I have the terms, but I need to do some research on the connector.

Thanks I tried that already, but I guess Ill have another go at it.

I'm having trouble finding that part on parts look ups. I'll try to do it again today.

wow. looks like that short keyed itself a nice notch for a guaranteed short each and every time.
