HELLO - can anyone provide specifics - for this trans swap - my 1994 Mark VIII trans died - and I have a 1999-2000 Crown Vic/Mercury Marquis 4.6L 4R70W XW7P-AA -DA trans - is this a simple direct swap - or do i need to make some changes?

Knowing the model (PK*-**)a instead of engineering would help, but main thing is make sure it isn't a long extension housing transmission (CVPI and Town Cars). Also the newer one will have a different internal wiring setup and connector. Best bet is to swap out the harness and all solenoids from old into new. Also need to reuse your year MLPS/neutral safety switch. Probably need to switch out the shift lever (as going from column shift to floor shift).

Your speedometer might be off, I don't know how many teeth yours has on the output shaft, the new one can be 7 or 8 depending on what it was in.

as long it has a vss port on the tailshaft, you should be able to swap the wiring and solenoid pack and be good to go as far as install is concerned.

speedo might be an issue though.

VSS didn't go away until 2003 (I think the port is ALWAYS there, but the output shaft won't have the teeth to run it), if it is a 99-00 it will have VSS and teeth to run it.

Thank you both Bangster and Chris2523 - Bangster says replace all the 99's solenoids with the 94's? I have read about replacing; the EPC solenoid, the TCC solenoid, the shift solenoids, and the TFT (Trans Fluid Temp) sensor, and the wiring harness??

Do I have to replace the 99 EPC solenoid, the shift solenoids, and the TFT sensor with the 94's - or just the 94's TCC sensor? I read the only solinoid that i need to swap from the 94 is the TCC?

But - I think all I need to do is;
1. re-pin the 94 connector from the car to match the connector on the new 99 trans.
2. move the 94's TCC solenoid to the 99 trans - modify the connector to accept the newer 99 connector.
3. use the 94's MLPS neutral safety switch on the 99.
4. since this is a 99 - the FSS is OK for the 94 mark VIII.

Am I on the right track here - ?

Thanks.

Yes, TCC is the one internally that is different, and you can cut up the connector on it to matchup with the 99 hardwire harness.
