I just bought a 2001 continental and the car makes a noise when you let off the throttle. May be the trans nto sure. It sounds like a bearing or gear noise. The trans was rebuilt about a year ago. How hard is it to remove the tans missions on these cars? If I find that the trans is bad I may just look for a good used one and replace myself. Any ideas or common problems with these?

Yep, use the search feature, and you'll find out lots about these transmissions.

But I'll also give you some advice.

They are hard to work on because they are front wheel drive, and V8 means little room to work.

Expensive to work on due to same as above.

The transmission is not as strong as it should be for the HP/TQ of these cars.

if someone beat on it even with a newly rebuilt transmission you will have problems.

And if they just plain didn't do the rebuild right there (of course) will be problems.

WELCOME to LvC fellow Conti owner!

Post some pics when you get a chance!

I haven't attacked the trans because it still works, and i am looking for a shop manual to do it, so I have a real step by step guide. If I find anything useful I'll post it.

I picked up the shop manuals on Ebay last night. I found one post where a guy dropped the trans at home, and he said you can lower one side of the sub frame and loosen the other like clam shell.

They are the factory manuals, I payed less than $50.00 for them. When I am done I can sell them to you if you want them.
