Sorry I haven't posted in a while, got shoulder surgery and it was too much hassle to type! Shoulder is doing good, I'm typing again, and I'm finally able to ask for help again! Thanks in advance to anyone who replies.

When my engine is cold and I try to turn my car on, it has to crank for about 5-10 seconds longer than it ever did previous to a month ago. Its just an uncomfortable sound and it makes me worry that it will simply not start one of these cold days that I have to be at work.

My questions are...
1) where is the crank sensor on this beast, and how much is it to replace one?

2) Where is a good place to buy battery terminals, especially including the upgraded terminal "blocks" that have space for extra low gauge wires (I have an Audio system with amps in the back.)

3) What else could be causing my starting problem? I've changed plugs this summer with Autolite 764's gapped at .048 with new wires.

Thank you all so much for your help and imput!

I'd check your plugs to see what they look like and also test the pressure on your fuel rail. Start there. When you say that you have a hard time starting is it just that it won't turn over or its slow when it tries?

When I say trouble I mean its MUCH slower when it tries, but it has started every time so far. It use to take just a moment after turning the key, I now hold it for at least 5-7 seconds... thats actually a long time if you think about it.

BTW, I said I changed the plugs this summer, and I'm guessing if it was the plugs there would have been signs much earlier.

Have you changed the fuel filter recently?

I changed my fuel filter a little more than a year ago, I have a 255 pump waiting to get installed when the weather brightens up a bit and my shoulder heals more also. I was going to change fuel filter up when I made the FP swap, but I dont' think its the filter anyway.

This problem literally just started one day, it wasn't a slow progression.

plugs foul, that's why I asked. These cars are known for getting oil leaks around the sparkplug opening. I would suggest taking your battery and getting it tested first to see if its holding a charge. Then I would replace the cables and connectors.

I've been having the same problem, but not quite as severe. My Mark, all of a sudden, needed 3-4 seconds of cranking before it would start.
I connected my battery charger and let it charge for about 3 hours. It didn't take much of a charge, but afterward the car started like it always did before in about 1 second.
1 sec vs 3 to 4 sec doesn't sound like much of a difference. but it sure was noticible.

I am thinking this is caused by the weather

Mine does the exact same thing when it is cold out. During this little warm trend that we have been having, it is back to normal. As soon as it gets cold, takes a few seconds longer. I believe that it has something to do with the cold weather having an effect on the systems ability to hold fuel pressure due to the cold effect on the seals allowing the fuel pressure to bleed off. I read a good writeup on this a while back, but I can't find it now.
