Turbo Charged LS?

i guess i bit my tongue.. lol..



so wht he did was run a turbo with the exhaust? is it THAT helpful?
 
a turbo is turned by the engine's exhaust - so causes less drag (and loss of hp) on the engine itself. The belt that drives the supercharger does cost some hp to drive it.

the turbo does not start creating power until it is spun up - meaning their is somewhat of a lag from the moment of throttle until the turbo reaches enough rpm that it starts creating pressure on the intake side. There have been many advances in turbo design (bearing, variable vanes, twin turbos) to overcome this issue. The other issue is one of heat - since the exhaust actual goes through the drive impeller of the turbo - the unit get hot, and it is usually under the hood (except for the STS style where they are under the rear bumpers).

since a supercharger is mechanically driven the power comes on typically sooner - and is available in the lower rpm ranges.

Both have pros and cons.
 
I wish someone would just get a package together. Turbo, S/C, Jet engine, nuke power, ANYTHING!

well - it's gonna get uglier before it gets better. since we do not know the limits of our drivetrain yet - once we get things running - we are likely to start breaking things before we can reliable know how far we can push it.

I'd rather have a Supercharger setup anyday, because you don't get the "lag" a turbo generally gives.

I contacted the folks at Centralfloridaturbo.com about a setup for my LS V8, they have never done one, and questioned IF they could find room under the hood for one.... but asked if I'd stop by sometime soon so they could look

Seem like nice guys, they've done some amazing shizit with Turbochargers. An Integra GSR ROASTING a Viper is impressive.

Let me know what the turbo shops says, i live about 15 min. from them. I'd be interested in what they could do with a V6 LS. It looks like a rice shop. Vinci Hi-Performance is another great shop here in Orlando. I had them do some work on my Trans Am years ago. They are a true dyno tuner who back then touted the "Worlds Fastest Viper".
 
It may be a while before I get a chance to get over there -- but if I do, I'll post their thoughts on here.

A "turbo lag" may be a good thing for these cars, as the power doesn't come when the throttle is intially pushed which would provide a slight cushion to the drivetrain. What usually breaks parts in the drivetrain are sudden hits/engagements. You would just have to get some massave air coolers if this was going to be a dialy driver with turbos.
