UltimateSVT's black on black '97 SLOOOWWW progress thread

Haven't done a single thing to either one of my '97's since the CE moldings on my prairie tan last month....... but....

I'm finally going to paint my black '97. The color remains a mystery until I get quoted on either colors I want. If the color I'm thinking of is significantly higher then it will stay black. Nothing wrong with black on black right? Well I will keep everyone posted. It's going to get done right!!!

There's a 20 day countdown that's driving me crazy but it is what it is. I have to be patient!

Nothing wrong with black on black. You can't go wrong there. Unless you're planning a complete color change.

Truth be told as sinister, evil, awesome, bad@ss, etc... as Black on black looks with black wheels, I want to do something just a tad different. Once the car is painted I am ordering a set of either black bullitt's or black Saleens. Not sure yet which wheel I will go with... & once I'm done, I am selling both of my chrome Cobra sets.

Today I took off the '01 Cobra wheels. I refuse to drop it off at the body shop with good wheels w/o locks. I don't want to risk it. I'm not used to seeing it this way!

Tomorrow the front bumper & the side moldings come off.

Alright guys. I wasn't able to do much this morning. I was tied up between clients & my step father who wants to buy another Cobra. That being said, all that was done today was the removal of my front bumper & headlamps. Neon came off last night. I can't wait for the new parts to come in. The whole damn project is depending on them!

Oh, I was just thinking something different... Or like a temple bumper.

The parts are slowly coming in.

Out with the old, in with the new.

Broken light that was on the car

Grabbed a sweet neon light this morning as well.

It had no studs what so ever so I swapped out the studs from an old neon I had in my shed.

I can only hope tomorrow I receive the front bumper which means I'd be dropping off my car at the body shop on Wednesday.

Ok there are perks to working from home. Since my front bumper has yet to arrive, I decided today to start taking care of the little things that count. I painted the light sockets & neon socket in the new Deep Wedgwood Blue. Also painted the trunk & front headlamp sockets in the header panel.

Yesterday all my remaining parts arrived. Front bumper, grill & headlamps. Installed everything in the afternoon right before it started to rain.

So... This is where I'm at. This morning my baby has been dropped off at the body shop. Went with a higher quality body shop at last minute but well worth it. Paint & buffing. By Wednesday the car will be ready. I'm dieing to see the finished results

This was the drive this morning to the body shop. Last drive before paint.

The best part about all this? I have ordered my wheels & they are on their way!

I like the rims!

I am jizzing in my pants about the wheels. Truth be told, everyone jokes about how Saleens are played out & then we all admit how sweet they look on a Mark but... they are indeed played out. Then there's an issue with my opinion. I don't like that the spokes on the Saleens are flush to the exterior of the wheel. I like wheels that concave in a bit... or a lot! lol...
I have grown tired of Cobra R's & my opinion is that they look so much better on Gen 1's for some reason. They really accent the front of the Gen 1's.

I bet its gonna look purty

I bet it will but we won't know until it's painted.

Nice neon! Are they going to remove the tail lights and headlight eyebrows before they paint it? I can't wait to see the finished product!

I removed the headlamps, tail lamps & grill & painted underneath all that area myself. If you look closely at the above posts you will see what I mean. Paint will be done identical to the cordovan covering all lighting except this time it's being done in their shop for only $300 more than the last job. No risk of getting any bugs or debris on fresh paint.

As for the neon, I'm searching for another neon. The corner studs were missing as well & those are not replaceable like the ones in the middle that I glued on so the neon sticks out about 1cm on each corner since there's nothing to hold it in. I will take pictures of it once the car is back in my hands again.

The pins for the outer top corners of my neon were broken too, luckily I found them and glued them back on.

I think what he meant about the headlight eyebrows and tail lights are the trim that is glued to them..they can be removed and just reglued when its done..saves from them having to tape them off and risk not covering the lenses completly.
