Hey LVC,
First off just want to say Thanks for all the helpful threads, specially to all contributing members.

So heres the thing, I have owned my 04 LS V6 for about 8 months now. Lately (past couple months) the upper radiator hose has been bursting (splits open). This usually happens after hard acceleration (like from 0-60 or 60-80 at wot), with normal driving everything is fine. The hose is the L shaped hose that runs from the water pump to the head, I believe. I have replaced this hose about 5 times. So far I have replaced the DCCV, T-stat, and checked the degas bottle after 20 minute idle and no leaks from it. I have tried to search for some answers on here and google but haven't really found anything that helps me explain this phenomenon. So I'm asking what might be causing this? Thanks in advance LVC.

Where are you buying the hose from? What brand is it?

The degas bottle cap sets the maximum pressure for the system. In my general experience, if the system goes over pressure, the shaft seal on the water pump is the first thing to fail, far sooner than a hose would. I would suspect bad quality hoses or the hose is the wrong size or is mis-routed.

I have purchased hose from local autozone. Brand is Dayco? Link to hose.....(http://www.autozone.com/autozone/pa..._/N-jkys6Z9pdrb?itemIdentifier=2480_713975_0_)
I have checked the hose route with other LS's, internet pics, etc... I usually have to trim down this hose every time I buy it since it's a little longer than what it needs. Do you think bottle cap is bad? how can I test cap or should I just replace cap and see if it still happens? Thanks again for your help.

Moderator, sorry for double post, I didn't see the "aproval notice" the first time. feel free to delete extra posts haha.

I went ahead and purchased the hose again as I need the car to get around (its running fine again). I did notice wear on the bursted hose though. I attached some pictures. It seems like the belt rubs on the hose (inner curvature) I circled which belt it rubs on and where the belt rubs on the hose in red circle. Also in the middle of where the hose has rub wear it has a small hole, apparently the belt rubs through. The yellow just shows where the hose "bursted".
So now I'm thinking, would that small leak from rub wear cause the system to have too much pressure and burst the hose?
The other hose thats on top of it seems to be resting on this lower hose. maybe it pushes down on it causing it to touch belt?
Sorry if it's a lil confusing. I will try to explain a lil better if needed. Thanks again guys.

It's not too much pressure!
You already see what the problem is, and yet you keep doing it over and over.

Get the correct OEM hose, with the correct spring clamps, don't cut it down (shorter).
Can't you understand that it is not supposed to touch any moving parts?

I had my hose burst in that exact Same spot minus the belt hitting it. Its a simple procedures but a pain in the rear. AutoZone had the same exact hose for $15 that worked like a charm. Take Joe's advice and get the oem hose. Yes it'll cost you twice the price but money spent well is money worth while.

I would have gone to the dealer after the first autozone replacement hose failed...

five failed hoses and you think the problem is anything other than a bad part/incorrectly installed...

IF the system was overpressuring AND the part wasn't crap quality AND put on correctly... im sure a different older hose would have burst before a brand new one would have (over and over)

hmmm, well to be honest I'm kind of skeptical about the oem hose since I did use it two hoses before this and the same thing happened. The oem hose popped from the outer curve though and had no signs of rubbing (that I remember) so I didn't buy the oem hose again since the same thing happened with this more expensive product. What I do remember is trimming the aftermarket hose because when I compared it to the oem hose, the aftermarket was a bit longer and looked kinda kinked when installed. As far as the clamps, they screw clamps have always been there but I will get some spring clamps. So now I'm thinking that the aftermarket hose will clear things better in its full length?
