Using a battery charger - disconnect the battery or not?

Happy New Year!

Have you guys charged your battery in the car with it hooked up? (pos & neg?)

My so called "intelligent battery charger" states that I do not have to disconnect the battery. Still, I have reservations and feel it safer to disconnect the battery.

I've never disconnected the battery when using mine. It would not exactly be a useful product in my mind if you had to disconnect the battery
