I went into the Lincoln dearship this morning to get some touch up work done on my 2000 V8. I thought since I was there I would test drive some new LSs. The lady first put me into a 2005 base V6 model with an automatic transmision. I was hoping for a manual transmision but she said they didn't make them any more. I took it out of the lot and turned right around, I wasn't expecting that big of a difference from a V8 to a V6. Then I hopped into 2004 V8 and right away I could tell the difference from my 250hp to 280hp in the new one. It was awesome I wish I could trade in for a new one. Nothing wrong with the V6 but the extra power the V8 gives is sure nice.

How are the LS V8's on gas.

The Mark VIII's will get 30 mpgs + HWY with stock gears.

Average 23 to 25 mps. At least thats what I get on both my 93 and 95 Mark VIIIs

I average by the display computer about 27 on the highway and 19-20 in the city with my V8. I have never done the calculations myself, I don't know how accurate the computer is.

Emmm 30+mpg on a mk8??? Well it is possible yet unlikely. (I average 26mpg if i don't touch the gas or brake on the freeway). On my commute I average 19.8 mpg for the past 700 miles. This is 85% freeway. But I do have a lead foot. I make sure i rev it above 3.5-4k every stop sign, streetlight. So I get around 12mpg city.

I live in the SF bay Area so Im sure my MPG is worse than most. Got about 20 with mostly highway driving from the misses 60 miles round trip. Getting about 18 in a 2004 LS V8 now.

I love the LS V8 love all that power under the hood!!

i drive a v6. at times i wish it was an 8... but when it comes time to pay my insurance & fill up my gas tank for $40, i'm glad its a 6.

30+ mpg in a Mark VIII? Haha sure. Maybe coasting down a 6% grade in neutral.

My LS gets 19-21 around town and about 25 on the highway, depending on how fast I drive.

I got a v-6 too, couldnt find a v-8 in Los Angeles at a good price, especially in LA were 90% of the 02 v8's will cost you about 19,995. With the kkm intake I noticed that my gas mileage went up, I dont drive my car too fast since I really cant (LA traffic), but my mpg is about 20 city.

I thought about looking and seeing about getting a newer ls v8 and swapping lol. I bet that would be a pretty penny.

I try not to push the tac past 2000 rpms. I am getting better gas milage, and I am not going past the posted speed limit. Driving like a granny, But I don't care

I just took a road trip frot Atlanta to St. Louis and my V8 only got 22mpg with me only driving around 75. Should I be worried or is this normal?

Did you do alot of passing? If I drive mine with the cruise control on 75, I get about 25 mpg. It goes down precipitously, however, if you do much low speed driving (like getting off freeway to eat) or passing. I could easily see my car getting 23-24 under those circumstances, but I've never gotten 22 on the highway, even cruising at 85-90. Hills will also hurt your mileage.

I wouldn't really be worried if I were you. I think in a worst-case scenario, if your car is getting worse mileage than it should and has high mileage, you should consider changing the front two oxygen sensors.

Hardly any passing at all and it only has 33K miles on it. I just thought 22 was pretty bad. I've only owned for 2 weeks so I have nothing to compare it too however, my 2002 Vette gets 30mpg on the highway.

Yeah my 2004 V8 gets about 14-15 with almost total around town driving. If I get it on the freeway with no traffic I have once seen it get around 26MPG at about 70mph with me babying it along and taking advantage of hills etc.

This car gets a lot less mileage than I had expected, but then even tho the V8 is tiny, the car is pretty heavy. So moving all that weight will eat gas. If we can keep it steady I think you will be OK. My 4,400# 96 SS used to get about 13mpg total around town, or about 17 mixed and occasionally 24mpg at steady freeway speeds. That had a 350, about 110cid bigger than our 3.9L and old Detroit 2 valve pushrod iron to boot.

I have a 2000 with 60k on it and I too am only getting around 22.5mpg. I drive about 40 miles/day. For 95% of the ride its 55/60mph cruising. On the freeway the best i've seen is 24?

Seeing this I dont think I'm running as efficiently as I could be. :Bang
