Vacuum Leak I think!?!? Or Failed Valve?

Im anal. I just got done washing my tires tread. If I back out of the car port they will become dirty again. :(

Ripped
Whats with the caps???
No coffee this morning?
Start with the simple stuff first, its trouble shooting 101.
Laser could be right it very well could be the IAC.
Or it could be a COP like sapp was saying or a bad plug.
Or it could be a vacuum leak on the tree.

These cars are know for all those issues.

Intake gasket is not a common problem.

If you own a Mark... your going to put more money into it then its worth.
The only way its worth it.... is if you can save the labor.
You not the only one who has thousands into a car that's a turd.

Because I was lead down that path too and I wish I would have done proper easy trouble shooting first. Why is it not worth it to spend $3 on a can of carb cleaner to ensure it's not a simple gasket leak first?

My point is I wish I did the simple trouble shooting things first before jumping on the electronic failure bandwagon. Very simple. I'm not saying I'm right, or that I'm more knowledgeable...what I am saying is trouble shooting a leaking gasket is easy and cheap to check whereas the other things aren't so cut and dry.

Wow people, guy has a SLIGHT stumble at idle but is not indicating a miss under acceleration. He also says its every few seconds when it stumbles. That is more then likely the IAC.

Also for finding vac leaks on the lower plenum stuff like throttle or MAF cleaner wont do chit. Starting spray is what you need but I don't tell non mechanically inclined people to use it because of the explosion/fire possibilities, more so for people that would spray it on so much that it pools. Just a couple split second taps of the nozzle around the injectors is enough to check. Really though that don't always work on our cars because when the intake gasket fails it fails in the middle pointing at the valley.

And no, your brother got the SOHC and DOHC motors confused. DOHC never had a coolant leak from the intake as there is no coolant in them. Plus the line that runs between the valley behind the water pump don't leak. I cant remember a single person ever having a leak there.

Oh yeah, another thing that can cause a rhythmic miss at idle are bad coils/coil boots. You can check the boots for cracks pretty easily.

Well Bill, now you have seen someone with a leaking hose under the intake! That solved my overheating issue! I pulled the intake and changed that hose and have'nt over heated since and still don't hear that hissing sound coming from that area after driving for a while!!! Just an FYI!!!

Thats cause you have a first gen motor. Didnt realize you were swapping a first gen motor into a second gen.
Second gens dont have a rubber hose under the intake, its a solid metal pipe.
