Value minus the engine?

Hello all....I'm just curious to what the value of my 2000 LS would be without the engine. Long story short I took my LS into the body shop of a local Ford dealer for some body work. The car ran fine when I dopped it off and came out with a blown up engine. I had the engine taken apart and analyzed by a local auto expert+radio host. He determined that it was the result off a over rev situation. So they (prob some lot tech) killed my LS! I had a lawyer draft a letter to the dealer explaining my case. No luck! I'm thinking about just throwing in the towel and selling her as is. Any ideas? Great shape with 129K, all the options. What does everyone think I could could get?

ouch...that sucks, i had something like this happen to me before..i had a 91 supra turbo targa, brought it to the dealer to have the remote for the alarm programmed because the remote got lost, they never got the job done (i was there like 3 hours for a so called 45 minute job), i left, and 10 minutes later on the highway it threw a rod...they were basically doing what it sounds like they were doing to you...i could hear them :q:q:q:qing around and doing burnouts and revving the :q:q:q:q out of it but when i went out there i was escorted back to the waiting area and "assured" that it was not my car that i was hearing...that was total bs because as soon as i pulled in 3 techs walked up to me and asked if they could drive it and it was the only supra in there, let alone the only car with a turbo that was there. everything else was minivans and camry's. long story short, of course i couldnt prove it was them, neither could a lawyer and i had to eat the cost. i 1jz swapped it (2.5 twin turbo for non toyota fans) and sold it.

i would keep it and put a new engine in. if you dont want to go through that hassel, then put it on ebay or craigslists and see what you get offered. i would guess you could probly get a couple grand for it depending on the condition.
 
Just another reason to maintain the rpm limiter in park and neutral.
 
Does the LS have an rpm limiter? The guy that took apart the engine said it does not. He said unlike a mustang, lincoln would never expect it's owners to rev them to death.
 
Red Flag! The guy who took it apart doesn't know sh!t if he said something as stupid as "unlike a mustang, lincoln would never expect it's owners to rev them to death."

It wasn't Click and Clack was it? Of course if the rev limiter was working the only way for them to blow the engine "due to an over-rev situtation" was to be out driving the hell out of it. Alway make a note of the miles on the car before it goes into the shop and after it comes out. Or you can end up with a Ferris Bueller situation.

and to the OP... what made your guy determine it was over rev'd

Damn straight. Take it to an actual expert; the LS has not one, but two rev limiters, one for Park/Neutral and one for when it's in gear. Unless it's a stick and they missed a gear on a downshift, I don't see how they could have over-revved it; a stock PCM wouldn't allow it.
