I have big races coming up soon and need to get Red Dragon going. GTO boy just put Speed Tech plate kit on his car and pulled 506HP and my buddies 2007 Mustang that I built him just pulled 510hp, both at wheels. I'm hoping I can 60ft both of them and leg them out. I did sell my old slick/rims to mustang guy and GTO boy is looking for some now so I won't have the huge 60ft gap I used to have.
I hate to tear into a brandnewish trans but gotta do it. This is a 1998 Crown vic trans with 36K.

I always wanted a trans holding fixture but don't want to pay the 250-300 for a good used one. Hit the stock racks and started at it. The trans has lugs on side for the holder to fit into. Had to figure out the taper and then put that on these.

Frame cut machined drilled (had to cut off nut I welded on here )

Here is mount plate I drilled bolt pattern in it and also did same pattern on my engine stand head so I can bolt them together

Welding it all up. You can see the tube that I threaded 3/4-10 on right side. This takes the jack screw to clamp trans.

All welded and primed with the swivel shoe that braces trans tight installed.

All painted and put to work. Love being able to rotate trans any way to work on it and not get covered in trans fluid.

Need to pull the front pump to replace the "C" clip that holds the mech diode on. NO one talks about this or shows anything about this so I thought I would put some info about it out there. The stock clip on high rpm/power cars pops out of its groove allowing the sprag/diode to eat itself. Not good. Here is the stock clip.

Dug up my AOD pump puller I made 10 years ago. Worked perfect. I wanted the pump to come out 100% str8.

Here are all parts to do job $11 total from local trans shop.

Here you can see the new "spiral" lock that replaces the stock C clip. This is 2 piece set up. The lower ring part goes on first then you wind the spiral clip on. Then you bend and fold the lip of first ring put on up and over spiral lock to then lock the spiral lock on. I did (8) 1/2 inch fold overs.

Here is pump out and pointing to stock clip that needs to be swapped out.

Here is all new stuff installed and you can see the 8 fold over areas.

Pump back in and all done. Now one less thing I don't have to worry about.

Now to really dig into her. The Crown vic trans came with different shift lever so this has to be swapped to a Mk8 one. Went up stairs pulled lever out of spare trans and cleaned her up.

To remove arm you have to pull this pin and remove the 13/16 nut and then slide out arm install mk8 one.

I bought all new steel rubber accums thinking mine would come with all alum ones but it came with all good steel ones. I put new ones in.

Nice trans holding fixture. Also very good info on internal trans stuff. What stall are you going to run?

My converter is around a 3600 stall but its bumped up to the 4XXX I bet on the bottle. I hope the new slicks can help this year.
 
So wait Frank, you're going to throw the bottle on Ice? Thought it was just going to remain a "tame" street car? Or is this for ye old red dragon?

Edit: nevermind just noticed you mentioned this trans is goin in the 93.
 
Some people say oh my god you should not race your car without changing that clip. I beat the heck out of mine, no problems. But I had this out and only 11 dollars for fix so why not.

So are you saying you don't have to change it? You just did while you had it out?

High RPM and high HP cars really need it. Stock cars not a really super big deal because there are amillion of the stock clips out there. The trans shop didn't think he had one because he goes thru them so much in every build. The problem is if that 4 dollar clip comes off trans is junk. The guy that warned me is one of the converter builder guys.

Wish i would have known this 2 years ago when I had my trans out 3 times in 2 days. Oh well, I'm sure the motor will let go soon and I will have another chance at it.
