Nice to see Mark 8 being restored to its former glory!

Good job sir!

That is nice, is that what your trade is? And how many coats did you do for paint and clear?

I sure hope not. No offense to the OP, but if your going to do it, you may as well do it right. The car looks good. For now.......

Looks great as always Alan. k9t8m I assure you it is a great paint job that will last. Alan has painted 4 black mark viii's for me plus 2 black ones of his own. He painted my black cross-gen car, and is going to paint my pearl white cross-gen as soon as I have it ready. He also does great custom paint work on everything from guitars to sprint cars. He's also done some touch up paint work on my son's blue 93 where he damaged his ground effects. I'm sure he will paint many more marks for me in the future.

I think what he's saying is that normally you strip a car down(r&i hl, grill, bumper's, handles, etc.) to do a complete like that. It's impossible to scuff all the edges well enough if you don't, which leads to delamination over time.

Thanks for the compliments. I actually do paint for a living, and as with anything else, it just depends on how carried away you want to get with any given job. You could do a complete disassembly or a ground up restoration, and i do those, but I really didnt feel the need to do a $3000 paint job on my $3000 car that i drive every day and people will still beat on in the grocery store parking lot.

Not doing a color change, it was already black in the jambs and between body panels and as long as your very thorough with sanding in all the cracks and crevices, it will last a very long time.
I spent a day fixing the door dings, another day sanding it, and Saturday painting it. I used 3 coats of solid black imron single stage paint.

Imron is used on semi trucks, aviation, ect. for its extreme durability and even though i chose not to base/clear it, its a very deep dark black and will hold its gloss for many years.

I will try to post some better pics when i can.

Very hard to polish how?

Like hard hard as in the paint is hard or its tricky, likes to hologram, etc?

Black is one of the best looking SS paints imo...

I dries very hard, so it takes alot of work to polish the scratches out after you wetsand it. Especially on black.

If you can get it sprayed without any dirt getting in it, it really doesnt need polished but thats hard to do in my old booth.

I usually wet sand with 1500 then 3000 on a DA, then hit it with course then fine compound with an air polisher.

Hard is very very relative with modern ceramic clears and modern polishes... all depends on what you use ;)

Hey Man, used Imron myself in the past. Frames and planes. Tough as nails and he is not talking chit. The stuff is murder to polish. I myself do not polish but my buddy who has been spraying for 45 years hates when he has to polish that stuff.

From the pictures your weild a gun well to get Imron to flow and lay down that well, hats off man.

my 97 is single stage, i love it the shine is way deeper than any black clearcoat i have seen. i dont know what brand paint was used but its so easy to keep up on it, i run my mequairs electric d.a over the car about every 6 months with mequiars m205 then hand apply black fire wet diamond and wow. get some pics of the car out of the booth in the sun, it looks great though. this is my single stage, jet black. single stage paints today are sooooooooo much nicer than past formula's
