I was just wondering what you guys and gals like or dis like and the gen 1 and gen 2s. The reason i'm asking is that i have a 93 80.000 miles mark 8 and have a chance to buy a 97 with 68,000 miles. the 93 is green with tan interior not really my fav combo. The 97 is an lsc black on black. If i get the 97 I might have to get rid of the 93.
Just wanted to get some ideas before i buy the 97. Thanks Jace

97 will get smoked by the 93 all day

97 lsc black on black is a definite upgrade from the 93, including the hids and obd2 for easier repairs. If i had the chance I'd scoop up a 97 lsc and keep em both if possible

94 and 96 but maybe run even with a 95...

Oh and this issue has been gone over many times.... so if you want to search you'll find what people say....

Chicken knows my thought LOL.... Girly car... LOL... How does Debi put it... Bunny nose... LOL...

There are more potential issues with the Gen 2's, but they more than make up for it. The interior on a Gen 2 is so much nicer than the Gen 1's

I was just recently forced to upgrade from a first gen to a second gen.

my first gen was lightly modded (gears, exhaust, tune) and ran very low 14's.
my second gen is stock and IMHO is a "turd" compared to my first gen performance wise.

overall I have to admit, I'm a first gen fanatic.. but I'm "not hatin" driving this second gen LSC.

after putting 400K on my first gen, this second gen just seems more "refined" and comfortable.

Each has their benifits and drawbacks.

I do like the "better tuning/datalogging solutions" available for the 96-98 cars.

If you want the "best of both worlds" get a 96!

GEN 2= Much nicer, newer looking, not as outdated, front/rear end looks so much nicer and a newer look, first american car to have xenons, Turn signal in mirror, nicer interior.....etc No BRAINER, the first gen is ugly IMO and is so outdated

Nice Cars both of them. But as you already know it take a big purse to afford to own one. What I save in gas from my 88 TC I spent on repairs on the Mark VIII.

95.5 LSC was the first to get HID's. OMG, Gen 2 headlights look like giant bee eyes! LOL

If I ever get another Mark, odds are it will be a Gen II. I prefer the look of a Gen I but it is "dated" whereas the Gen II could pass as an 08!

I like the looks of the Gen2s a lot better. The Gen1s while nice looking cars look dated. Plenty of people are surpised when they find out my Gen2 is over a decade old. The interior is nicer and I like the little things like the neon and the turn signals in the mirrors.

Gen I
pros
-Love how it easily passes everyone on the highway
-It looks more agressive
-The steering is alot better then the Gen II. Very percise
-Better gas mileage(at least between mine)
Cons
-The seats are not supportive
-The AC doesn't cool as fast(I think I need to refill the system)
-Not as refined interior as the Gen II
-Cheaper door handles
-one cupholder
Gen II
Pros
-seats are very supportive
-has more features then the Gen I (like power tilt steering)
-Can pass as a 2006 model (More refined interior)
-Firmer ride
-has a better exhaust tune (stock vs stock)
-OBD II
Cons
-Really slow (http://youtube.com/watch?v=tij7y6P5EkM)
-Can't slam your trunk because of the neon light
-Steering is not as good as the Gen I
-cupholders can break
-Window buttons can fall off

I would say go for it, I am more of a Gen II guy. You get the refined interior but the car is really slow as compared to the Gen I. But you can always make your car faster but you can't make it look more refined. (Well Yea you can take the Gen II interior and put it in a gen I but its alot more easier to just put mods on your Gen II)

I have always been a gen2 I guy... even before I bought on. I always like the interior in the gen2 and the over all appearance of the exterior. With that being said...

Two years ago, my dad purchased a 96 black on black lsc. The car has since been wrecked (totalled) and I purchased it from the insurance co. Now I have a low mile gen1 motor and tranny, a set of pefect hids, and perfect black interior.... so now I am looking for a gen1 to build.

I prefer the look of the gen2 and the performance of the gen1. I guess you could say the gen1 is growing on me.

Mainly the intake design. Not sure about the tune itself though.

The Gen I has a classic, beautiful lines.
The Gen II may arguably look new, but not as timeless.
It's a silly argument arguing which 10-15 year old car looks newer.
The Gen I simply looks better.

The Gen I is the car for the enthusiast. And the Gen II was the car for retired old ladies who liked golf and bought more car than they expected.

Even though I like the Gen 1's a bit more, I would drive a Gen 2 any day. They are both nice cars & both have their good points.

And yes... 1995.5 Mark VIII LSC was the first vehicle in north america to have HID's or xenons. The first vehicle to have HID's was the BMW 745 in 1993.

Ford has screwed the HID thing up pretty good anyways, Most likely you will be using a aftermarket HID kit on a GEN1 or GEN2 now or very soon.

man if an old lady drove my Gen2 her dentures would go flying out the window just of how stiff the suspension is :gr_devil:

gen1's and gen2's have their own unique look, but personally i LOVE the gen2 design, i always wanted a Gen2 since the first time i saw one......why settle for a Gen1 :p

lol jkjk :p

Why is the GEN I faster? lighter? by how much? Same cobra motor?

supposedly the 93 got the most aggressive tune stock, and they get slower as they get newer. the gen 2 seems more refined sure the grille and headlights look kinda bulbous, but the rear neon rocks (if it works) the interior is much better and wtf am i supposed to do with 1 cup holder. gen 2 ftw!!!!!
and another note, we DONT have the cobra eng.............they have a lincoln engine we had them for 3 years before they stuck one in a rustang

you would think by now everyone in this lincoln world would get it. the mark VIII was in dealers lots as early as 9-92 with a dohc 4.6 in the engine bay. the cobra's that came with dohc 4.6's were on dealers lots around 9-95 so how do mark VIII's have a cobra motor in them?? the cobra's have refined LINCOLN motors in them. i cant stand seeing this everywhere i look, specially the retards who are selling mark VIII's on craigslist, " fast car " " 4.6 dohc cobra motor " or you'll even see " 305 hp cobra motor "

the mark VIII had the motor BEFORE THE RUSTANG SLOWBRA DID!!!!

Yup. Its a Ford Modular DOHC. Not an SVT product! Cobra my azz... I wish the Mark VIII did have a real SVT Cobra engine as stock though! Their intake manifolds look nice!
