what do you like about gen1 &gen2 mark 8 pros and cons

everywhere i look, specially the retards who are selling mark VIII's on craigslist, " fast car " " 4.6 dohc cobra motor " or you'll even see " 305 hp cobra motor "

the mark VIII had the motor BEFORE THE RUSTANG SLOWBRA DID!!!!

the only reason people do this is probably cuase if they just say 4.6 dohc motor the normal person would think not much of it. When they say as you said it makes people think " cobra's are quick, that must be a fast car." or something like that.

Even though I like the Gen 1's a bit more, I would drive a Gen 2 any day. They are both nice cars & both have their good points.

And yes... 1995.5 Mark VIII LSC was the first vehicle in north america to have HID's or xenons. The first vehicle to have HID's was the BMW 745 in 1993.

Ford has screwed the HID thing up pretty good anyways, Most likely you will be using a aftermarket HID kit on a GEN1 or GEN2 now or very soon.

actually the 95 750IL was the first car, there is NO such thing as a 93 745

I don't know if there is a 1993 745 or not? I know that BMW did have HID's in the 1993 7 series though. It is on several sites. Acording to the information on the internet the Mark VIII had the first and only DC HID set up.

I've been spending some time behind the wheel of the 97 and 93 in the last few days.Just driving one then hoping right into the other.
I like the front end of the 93 alot better
93 is or at least feels alot faster and nimble than the 97
After having the 93 for a few months the color combo still isn't growing on me. green ext,tan interior.
The 97 interior is soo much better than the 93. It's ride and trans shifts seem to be alot smoother than the 93.However I do like the harder shifts and better feel from the steering wheel in the 93.
One big problem I have 97 (black on black )is that pretty often when driving up behind other drivers they slow down about 5/10 mph. I'm thinking it might look like an unmarked(no pun intended) cop car to them.Maybe thats not what going on and just unlucky and getting behind the wrong. But its happened to many times in just a few days. hmmmm.

I still have a few days to figure out what I'm going to do. I'd love to have them both but thats not really an option at this time.

I own both gen's a 1993 and a 1997 LSC.

I just picked up my 97 and this is what i've found.

I use to be a big mark vii guy, put a 5spd in one, lots of goodies/suspension/etc, made one to be black on black special edition clone.

Wound up parting it out to build a sick gen 1, i got a gen 1, and i loved it, but the more i drove it the more outdated it felt. It looked like a 15 year old car, as it should, because it is.

I use to think the gen 2's were silly looking with thier huge headlights, but after driving the gen 1 for awhile i started looking around for a gen 2 that reminded me of my old mark vii, (black on black with a moonroof) well after a long long wait, lots of wasted trips to check out vehicles, i found it, and secured it two days ago.

Here is what i've discovered.

The 93 is a luxurySPORTcoupe

The 97 is a LUXURYsportcoupe

My 93 stops ALOT better and pulls ALOT harder with 140,000 miles on it vs my 55,000 mile 97.

The 97 is slow as a dog turd, but thats ok, its not a race car. (yet) :gr_devil:

The 93 handles better, but the 97 rides better, it feels more percise.

The interior and features (puddle lamps, front/rear heated leater seats, dimming interior lights, turn signals built into the mirror, hid's, etc etc, make the gen 2 OWN in styling and where it lacks performance that can always be changed with some mods.

I def like my gen 2 over my gen 1...but i still love driving my gen 1, it GETS it for being mainly stock.

Either way, they are both purely awesome vehicles, i just like the updated gen 2, black on black, tinted out, with a moonroof....drivin that thing makes me :)

SAME HERE I HAVE A BLACK/BLACK 97 LSC AND PEOPLE SAY IT LOOKS LIKE AN UNMARKED.

Well it happens with older cars..

ugly!! pretty!!!

Agressive, Smooth....

haha i was just trying to sum up what this post will lead to

i actually like all mark viii's and think theyre 1 of a kind; i personally bought a gen 2 because it was the first to come up in my search for a mark viii. I was open to either to either at the time, and i still plan on owning a gen 1 one of these days.

I have a '96, and sometimes I'd like a more modern looking front and tail end.

Then I look at the Gen II's and think about how I'd have a more modern looking front and tail end if I went and bought one. Then I realize with the attitude that the gen II lacks, I'd lose everything I love about the mark.
