Hey guys,

I figure I could probably get this car for $800.

Barring the headlights are good, and I keep them, and I also keep the wheels and hood supports.

Could I make $700 to cover the rest of the car by parting it out?

I have heated garage space and a multitude of tools at my disposal, maybe get a little more wrench time in. Also, this could be a good test mule for some suspension and aero mods I have been thinking about.

I have access to engineering programs like Fluent, ABAQUS, ANSYS... CAD programs for FREE... Once I get a bit of free time over winter break (I am a student) I will be starting a profile run, using fluent, to optimize a chin and rear spoiler to our cars. Static and dynamic analysis is possible to any suspension parts and stuff:D . I just never stop dreaming about improving our cars, the $$$ just hold me back. This being said, if I hack up the front bumper it won't be like I have to drive around with it like that.. haha..

Best thing for a parts car is having the parts when you need them.

Price of items will depend on supply and demand.

It's amazing whe sells and what doesn't...

$700 - $1200

Does the drive train commonly sell? I would offer the motor and trans up to my father for his hot rod project, but it seems like a nightmare with the stand alone computer for the trans if you go carbed and... ick...

In my experience a first gen can be parted out for around $1000 or less...

The trans you have to practically give away, the engines don't sell but when you sttip them down to the block they do... the rear ends I've had offers for but never sold one...

The biggest problems with parting a high mileage cheap Mark out is most of the parts people need and will pay for are broken or damaged already....

6 years ago i could part a 1st gen out for a very decent profit, now, we wont even spend 500 on one because no one wants anything for them unless the parts are mint, and i live on earth, no used parts from a 15 year old mark VIII is mint. the motor wouldnt sell as a whole motor, no one is gonna buy one with that kind of miles, but as a bare block you might get $250 for the block, i just sold one last night for $200 on egay. you might be able to get most of the buying price back parting it, but with scrap back down to nothing, dont expect to get rich, catalytic convertors are worth nothing on it right now, wheels maybe $30 bucks for 4 in scrap, but you never know!

I might just stay away from this then. I'll see how it looks. I might just add a complete beater to my garage. Nothing like doing burnouts and driving WOT... everywhere:eek:
