Hi Guys,

My new Lincoln will soon need a new pair of wiper blades. My LS was assembled at Wixom, Michigan in April. So, it's been a while. What do you guys recommend?

I'm hearing some good things about Rain-X and the new Bosch ICON™ wiper blades.
They're bracketless.

Uh, arn't you the guy who posted a thread saying you just got a new 2006 LS that was built in April? Why would it need new wiper blades already? Or is this some Canadian thing?

I looked into getting new blades for my 03 LS, and believe it or not, my unscientific review of posts says that the best wiper blade for the LS is the OEM Motorcraft blade. In terms of fit, durability, and windshield clearing ability, they worked best according to the majority who tried several blades.

Well, yes I am the same guy.

Remember, the car has been on the dealer lot since April, about 7 months. The hot sun, rain, has made them a little brittle. The passenger side wiper blade streaks some, and doesn't hug the windshield very well passed 55 MPH.

I don't understand why the talking down to. I was just wondering if anyone had a favourite wiper blade manufacturer.

I believe the OEM blades are good enough. I also am a believer in RAIN X. Welcome to LVC!!!

I had Bosch Icons on my '04. and I liked them. IIRC, they were fairly expensive as wiper blades go, but they worked quite well.

I've had excellent results with the Bosch Micro Edge. Of course, nothing lasts long in the summer heat and sun around here....

I just replaced mine with Trico silicone blades. You can buy them with the arm assembly or as a standalone refill. Trico is original equipment on the LS,and most domestic cars; just look at the underside of your wiper arm-the logo is stamped in the metal.

Regardless of the age of the vehicle, change them once if not twice a year.

check your local auto parts store for PPG glass treatment. It works great and blows rainX out of the water!

motorcraft blades are rebranded and made by Trico. I like the Trico Exact fit with teflon for my cars they come in a blue package.

If your blades dont clean the windows and your car has less than 12k miles on it, they can be replaced under warranty.

I've found that claying the windshield once a year really helps the wipers do a good job, and allows the rainwater to blow off the windshield at high speeds.

RainX your windshield and you won't need windshield wipers anymore.

I used rain-x on my previous vehicles, but my ls manual says treatments like rain-x would interfere with the sensor for the auto wipers.
If that area beside the rear-view mirror is the auto sensor, I suppose one could just not treat that area?

Yes, you can RainX the windshield as long as you avoid the area around the sensor, and yes, it is in that black box on the windshield behind the rear view mirror.

Using a clay bar is good for the windshield, but I actually had a recommendation from a trrusted source that you can do the same thing with Bon Ami cleanser. Yes, that Bon Ami, the sink cleanser; it's a great cleaner, and it's gentle enough that it won't scratch the glass.

I swear by Bon Ami for my windshield. I wouldn't use anything else. I'm in need of some wiper blades soon as well. On all of m previous vehicles I've used the Bosch Micro Edge, and I have become severely disappointed with each pair that I buy (the local AutoZone has a very limited selection). They just do not lost more than 6 months and that's rediculous for the amount you pay for those blades. OEM blades are where it's at. My mother always has her regular maintanance things done at the dealership on her Continental and her wipers always perform very well and last almost a year.

Question is, will my new Lincoln's wiper blades be covered? Or will I have to pay for a new pair?

I know I have 24 hour roadside assistance, and my brakes, belts, and hoses are covered for 4 years.

PostalUT, have you ever tried the ICON Series from Bosch or have you only tried the MicroEdge Series?

I have had all brands of wiper blades. The best that I have found are the ones at Wal-Mart called Lexor.

i have PIAA WIPER BLADES, they are the best, the grafite ones have a lifetime warranty!

You are Canadian, so Lincoln Canada will replace the wiper blades as part of the free service agreement, anytime during the 4 year/80000 km (yes, US readers, in Canada we get 4 years/ 80000 km of free service). I recently got new free blades on my '02. I don't know what the criteria are for replacment. One of mine was peeling. Your car is quite new, so they might look at you funny if you ask for new wipers already. Try wiping/rubbing the rubber with a dry paper towel. This will remove oxidised rubber and make them work worlds better.

Bosch Icon's. At 90mp/h they still wipe the windshield without skipping as some of the cheaper and "open" blades will. Then again, the original blades just recently failed. Mindblowing.

Strictly the original and MicroEdge series blades. Terrible products. Is the ICON new?

Yeah, the Icons are new. They're the same (essentially) as what Ford is shipping on the Freestyle; they don't have the traditional wiper frame; they use a spring steel back with an airfoil on it to keep the entire blade pressed to the glass. It's difficult to explain, but if you go here ( http://www.bosch.us/content/language1/html/715_4502.htm ), you can see it. I liked the ones I had on my '04.

I use the triple edge silicone wipers from walmart and I love them. I have used them on every vehicle I have owned. Personally I will only use silicone wiper because I feel they work alot better than normal.

Finally replaced the old wiper blades. Apparently TRICO brand. EIther way they basically disintegrated when I took them off. Here's what it looked like:

Quality products huh?

Also apprently the Bosch icon costs 17.99-21.99 PER BLADE. I'm not spendcing $50 on wiepr blades. So I broke down and got the micro edge (I know I said I hated them but it was a quick fix)
