I KEEP HEARING PEOPLE TAKING OFF THE AIR SILENCER. WHAT IS ITS PURPOSE AND WHAT DOES IT DO. DOES IT HURT PERFORMANCE OR ROB AIR FLOW? I BELEIVE IT SITS ON TOP OF THE INTAKE MANIFOLD AND IS ATTACHED TO THE AIR INTAKE. I BELEIVE THERE WAS ANOTHER GIZMO I HAD TO REMOVE ALONG WITH THIS TO CHANGE THE PLUGS? ITS EASY TO REMOVE, BUT WHAT DO YOU PLUG THE HOLE IN AIR INTAKE WITH? CAN YOU GUYS GIVE ME SOME ADVICE, I WOULD APPRECIATE IT.

ALSO I JUST GOT EXHAUST TODAY. AFTER THE FACTORY CAT ON EACH HEADER THE FACTORY EXHAUST Y'D INTO A 3RD CONVERTER AND 2 PIPES CAME OFF THAT ALL THE WAY TO THE BACK AND A MUFFLER WAS ON EACH PIPE. WELL I CUT THIS CAT OFF LEAVING THE 2 ORIGIONAL ONES RIGHT AFTER HEADER UNDER THE FIREWALL. I HAD A STRAIGHT PIPE PUT ON EACH SIDE, IE 2 PIPES IN PLACE OF THIS COVERTER AND AT THE END SAWED OFF BOTH MUFFLERS AND PUT 2 MAGNAFLOW ZERO RESTRICTION MUFFLERS. WAS THIS A GOOD IDEA TAKING THIS OFF? DO YOU NEED A CERTAIN AMOUNT OF BACK PRESSURE? I SEE SOME GUYS PUTTING IN X PIPES OR XX PIPES IN THIS LOCATION. THERE ARE ALLOT OF EXPERTS OUT THERE AND I WOULD APPRECIATE ANY FEEDBACK OR ADVICE ON THESE THINGS I DISCUSSED.

I ALSO AM PLANNING ON PUTTING IN A COMPUTER CHIP AS MY 95 IS AN OBD I CAR. ANYONE KNOW WHERE THE ECU IS TO PUT THIS CHIP. I ALSO NEED A CODE ON THE ECU TO ORDER THE RIGHT CHIP. ANY IDEAS OR HELP WOULD BE GREAT. I AM GETTING THE VALVE BODY DONE ON THIS MARK 8 AS WELL. I DID IT ON MY FIRST ONE WITHOUT ANY MODS. IT GAVE FIRMER SHIFTS AND BETTER PERFORMANCE. ANY OTHER MODS I CAN ADD FOR NOT ALLOT OF EXTRA CASH? THANKS AGAIN...:) :) :)

as for what to use to plug the hole ! Home depot has t thing called a quick cap
you want 1 1/2 inch quick cap , they are in the plumming department.
thier is a air silencer in front of the air box .

as for EXHAUST: I couldn't do such a thing living on the West Coast they frown on that, I when with a high flow 2 in 2 out converter.

OBD 1 should be under the hood .

pipe in anyone if I am misinformed

What you removed was one of the resonators. It is easily capped off with a 1 1/2 inch pipe end cap, they make the type where you can put it in and twist a wingnut to make it fit perfectly. The actual silencer is up under the passenger side fenderwell. You have to remove the tire and inner fender liner to access it. If you remove your air box you will see the top end of it. Both the silencer and the resonator serve the purpose of quieting noise of air coming into the engine, but don't really hinder performance. I removed mine anyway. As for removing the 3rd cat, yes this was a good idea. Only 2 are needed for emissions purposes and the 3rd is overkill. You will have no backpressure issues. If you want max bang for the buck get a T-lok and 4.10 gears. As far as the chip goes, contact LMS on the banner at to the right.

I LEFT 2 CONVERTERS ON THE CAR AND HAD THE CAR RE-INSPECTED AND IT PASSED SMOG IN LAS VEGAS, WHICH IS AS STRICT AS LOS ANGELAS. SOME CALL IT A RESONATOR. I AM ALL ABOUT A CLEAN ENVIRONMENT, BUT THERE ARE GUYS CUTTING OFF ALL CONVERTERS AND MUFFLERS, I COULDN'T DO THAT. I LEFT THE 2 FACTORY CONVERTERS INSTEAD OF HIGH FLOW CONVERTERS, JUST WANTED TO CLEAR THAT UP, I AM NOT SOME REDNECK WHO DISREGUARDS THE ENVIRONMENT.

DO HAVE QUESTION, THE AIRBOX HOLDS THE AIRFILTER, WHICH ON MY CAR (95) IS ALMOST TO THE VERY FRONT OF CAR. IS IT UNDERNEATH, AND WHAT IS THAT CRAZY THING ON TOP OF THE INTAKE MANIFOLD SHAPED LIKE A FRYING PAN BUT IS A SEALED THINGY, IT IS CONNECTED TO THE AIR INTAKE ABOVE THE CYLANDER #3. MY THROTTLE BODY IS UNDER THE COWL ON BACK OF ENGINE. 96 AND LATER WERE ON THE TOP PASSENGER SIDE, WHICH IS WHERE THIS THING IS. ANY PICTURES OF WHAT THIS LOOKS LIKE?

THANKS, HOPE I DID NOT OFFEND ANYONE, I LEFT 2 CONVERTERS AND WENT AND HAD INSPECTION TO BE SURE. THANKS:cool:

THANKS, WHAT IS THE T-LOCK. IS THAT A TRACTION LOCK? THE CAR HAS A TRACTION SWITCH THAT I USUALLY TURN OFF. CAN THOSE 4:10 GEARS GO IN THE STOCK DIFFERENTIAL. IF SO WERE DO YOU GET THE GEARS, AND HOW MUCH TO HAVE IT DONE. WHAT DOES IT DO TO THE RPM'S AT 100. IN OD AT 100 I RUN ABOUT 3300 RPM, WOULD THEY GOTO 3500 OR 3800 OR 4300 RPM AT 100 IN OD WITH THESE GEARS. THANKS FOR YOUR HELP, I DID GET AN EMMISION TEST AFTER I HAD IT REMOVED AND STILL PASSED. THANKS:cool:

Is There A Noticeable Difference When You Remove The Silencer And Resonator?

yeah I have a 95 lsc and I have all the cats gutted into flowmaster 40 series, and there was a deffinte change. The lsc's have a stock x-pipe though so I didnt have to worry about that though, but my buddy got 1 put on and u could tell the difference (he was running magnaflows) but he never cut out his cats so it was still kind of quite for my liking. I didnt see any negative effects though with the amount of back pressure i have so I woudnt worry about that unless u ran straight pipe out all the way from the header (which I heard was not recommended for our cars) good luck!
