what is this knob/button?!?

let play a game, its called "try to pay attention", the OP has an 01 LS, not a 00 S-type. even though a lot of the cars are similar, the interior panels are nothing alike. last i checked we dont have any cats on our dashboards.

oh yea, not to mention our dimmer control, is right next to the headlight switch, not under the trunk pop button.

and a new signature quote.... thats three in a row for Loud... very nice.

Duly chastised, I assumed greater similarity the the S-type and the LS and we all know what assumption without all the facts can lead to. Sorry about ruffling some feathers, I'll be more careful in the future.
Apparently this knob is a custom installation and I'm curious what it is for. Hopefully the OP can let us know when the mystery is solved.

def aftermarket....its the same place i installed my emergency brake ground switch for my HU display. great spot for anything aftermarket. easy to get to, and can be replaced..

I installed the on/off switch for my Rain Tracker in that same location. It fit perfectly and looks totally stock!
