Im running a 2.5" D/D magnaflow with Perforated Tru-X core(internal X-pipe). Ive heard that running flowmasters is basically just running your exhaust gases into a bunch of walls thus restricting flow. Has anybody else heard of this?

thats the same muffler i have in the middle of my car.. its ok. i dont really like the sound.
flowmasters use sound cancelling instead of sound absorbtion like a magnaflow..

Borla XS mufflers. There is not a muffler that flows better. There is not a muffler that is quieter. There is not a muffler that makes more power, under any kind of testing.

:bsflag: Muscle Mustang & fast Fords tested all leading high performance mufflers awhile back, and as far as power is concerned FlowTech Terminators made the most HP on the dyno, and on my Mustang they are quiet at cruise and loud at full throttle. like a muffler should be. they have a 3 inch flow tube that goes straight thru with one chamber in the middle, NO baffles.

Glass packs in my tips, stock LSC duels

I'm running Magnaflow Race series SS mufflers and they have a nice deep sound. If you want something loud and aggressive, don't get these. Only regret I have about these mufflers and tip set up, is that it looks too big and bulky for the rearend of the Mark. From certain different angles they look spectacular, at others they look not right for some reason. Prolly could have had em tucked up a lil bit more. But all in all they are a good muffler.

My car is very quite at idle. It has a slight drone at higher speeds, it is not bad though.

That's just one test. Every other test done by every other independent showed the Borla XS makes the most power. Don't believe everything you read just because you see it one time. Borla XS simply flows more, makes more horsepower, and is the quietest. I won't say that it is by some large gulf, because it is usually only 3-4 hp, but at 10 decibels less noise, I will take it.

Not to mention that the Flowtech mufflers always tested among the loudest at idle, loudest at cruise, and loudest at WOT.

If you like your system to be loud at full throttle, that is your own decision; not the way a "muffler should be". I own a Lincoln, not a Fox Mustang. I don't want my engine to make a lot of noise at WOT.

:bsflag: whatever floats your boat captain. but those overpriced BORElas just don't compare, my mustang is very quiet at idle and DEAD quiet at cruise.at WOT they are incredible. absolutely nothing like them. the FlowTech Terminators out hp them by 5 HP. I also own a Mark VIII and when I go flying by I want to be heard. I stand by MM&FF. for my info.

want to be heard, want to be ticketed also.. what are you 17?

if I was worried about ticket's I would not have a loud exhaust, since I street race ocassionaly I accept the risks, If you want quiet stay stock. and I happen to be 41 years old, if I was 17 I would have fart pipe ricer mufflers on my cars. :D

I'm running no mufflers, and no resonator. Still have all 3 cats though, a lot quieter than you would think. Has a very deep sound similar to the Cobra, imagine that...

Being heard doesn't mean super loud. My 86 T-Bird from the past and my Mark VII I ran without mufflers, the Bird had stock size pipes/not to loud, The Mark had 2 1/2 pipes it was kinda loud. Thats nearly 15yrs on the road between the two and only got pulled over once, no ticket, no warning, I think he was a newbe in training and was practicing a traffic stop. My Mark VIII and F150 have glass packs, the trucks comes out in front of the tire std cab/short box, both are pretty loud, had the Mark 3+yrs and the truck 2+yrs never pulled over. Sound preference is like color preference, I don't like white cars, does that make my black cars better? Nope, and I don't say white cars suck, I know you like what you like.

Oh yeh, MagnaFlows aren't always quiet. I got a 2 1/2 dual in/dual out at the rear bumper of my Mustang II. Its in the stock location, kinda the sleeper look. Well its no sleeper when its running. Long tube Hedman headers with 3" collectors 2 1/2 pipes into a MagnaFlow X, 2 1/2 all the way down one side of the car over axle, then the muffler. It ain't quiet, soundes sweet. If I had an open chamber on there, I wouldn't even be able to drive down the street. WOT sounds crazy, Nothing like the Magnaflows on my LSE. I know the converters and all that stuff makes a difference, but you wouldn't think its the same kinda muffler. Every application is very different.

i like the lms mufflers they are the ones that are supposed to be perfect for the modular engines. Im running flowmaster 80 series. but as soon as i find out how much geno charges for a full exhaust replacement 2.25 all the way down to his cat backs. just like the one from the video sounds great.
lms x pipe and exhaust plus all the tubing and labor geno send me a pm on how much. i want it to sound just like the one in the video.

More power, 10 decibels less noise.....sounds like a pretty good comparison to me. Engineering costs money, but I still got my Borlas for $80 a pop. They're also full stainless.

If I want quiet, I'll buy the best engineered exhaust, and make more horsepower at the same time.

Good for you. MM&FF is just one magazine. More publications than them have not had the same results. Int he end, for however quiet your cars are, mine is quieter.

Even the best aftermarket mufflers ring out at a little over 80-something decibels at WOT. If you have trouble being heard at those levels, you need to move out of Century Village. Anything more than that is just noise and cop-bait.

I don't worry about the police that much, I don't have any mufflers on my Mark right now, just dynaflow 2.5 cats. with Motorsport shorty headers, and it sounds very healthy. my FlowTechs have been on my Mustang for 10 years now and they still look and sound the same as the day they went on.

they just don't care around here unless you are flooring it right by them, they pretty much have gotten used to loud exhaust. unless your driving a pro-stocker or drag exhaust. then they might trip on you. :D

Right on. I don't even think twice about having alittle noise. Hard to find a pick-up with quiet exhaust around here, not to mentiom some of the racket the ricers with the polished soup cans make.
