When you were car shopping for your present Mark viii?

I was looking for something similiar to this, but decided it wasn't worth the risk. :(

I wanted to buy a Merkur Xr4Ti before my Mark but it was sold the day before I went to go after it. Bought an S10 pickup because I had money burning a hole in my pocket. Fixed up the S10 and by that time I had the Mark Viii bug..... sold the S10 and bought my Mark off of craigslist for 1500 bucks.

I too have always wanted a 95, 96, 97 Eldorado Touring Coupe. I hate FWD cars but I used to detail a 94 and a 95 weekly and they were both nice and pretty damn quick. Fast enough for me and I always liked the looks of them. Just a little plain on the inside but the Mark VIII was my favorite because of the inside quality and looks and RWD with nice stock speed.

When I was 16, I had a 69 RS SS with hide away headlights and only primer but it was restored from the ground up with only 9 miles on the engine. Might find this hard to believe but I told my dad that I wanted a 76 Cutlass Salon instead. It had the shifter in between the seats and very nice interior. He paid $2500 in 1984 for one with 77,000 miles on it and I drove that car for a long time and later in life, I bought a 85 Jaguar Vanden Plas, Cranberry in color with chrome spoke wheels but the upkeep on that car was just to expensive for me at the time and I sold it and it was a relief. Then they came out with the Mark VIII and I fell in love but always liked the Mark VII and I used to go to the Lincoln dealer late at night and just dream lol. I told myself I would own one some day and I accomplished that when they were more affordable.

The Eldorado is still a possibility though but the Mark isn't going anywhere.

Pics are all sideways but I would go anywhere from a 1995 up to a 2000

When I was looking for my mark I was considering one of two other cars..either the 96/97 cougar or 96/97 thunderbird..mind you I was on a budget

I tried to find one in this color to no avail..it's funny I found a pic with the cobra rims cause I always wanted to hubswap for these wheels

1996-1998 Mustang Cobra... I've always wanted one but living in Miami dealing with traffic I don't want to deal with a 5 speed & that's not an option so the other option is to look at the Cobra's Automatic cousin, the Lincoln Mark VIII or its uncle the Marauder. The Marauder was beyond expensive & being a long time Thunderbird owner (5 T-Birds in total) I leaned towards the Mark.

Nice lean you took there Alex. I like the comfort of the Mark VIII and knowing I can pull out onto a road with cars coming and being at 45 to 55 within a matter of 5 to 6 seconds easily and not annoying the hell out of the people I pulled out in front of because I never slow them down in any way. I can drive mine from here to Florida and never feel uncomfortable. I can't say that for any other car I have owned.

I was ONLY looking for a MK8 nothing else.

Same here. I was always a Thunderbird guy, but when my Procharged 91 bird was totalled I ended up with a 92 Mustang 5.0 coupe as a daily. Loved and hated the car all at the same time and decided I was going to finally pick up a Mark what I considered a T-bird with a Cobra engine boy that was misleading lol.

At the time I got my '96 Mark, I wasn't actually looking for a car. My DD was a '93 T-Bird Sport with the EFI 302 and SC wheels. I also had a '79 Toyota pickup, an '88 Ranger, and an '88 Town Car. My mom called and told me that there was a Mark VIII at a car lot and that I should go look at it. So I looked at it and bought it because the deal was too good to pass up. 65k miles for $4k. All it needed was front air shocks. :)

Most of my life I have had two cars. One as a daily driver and one as a hot rod. I my first Mark VIII was a DD in the late 90s and it replaced a Mark VII LSC. I decided that when I was done with that Mark VIII as a DD I would make it my Hot Rod. But in 05 on an impulse buy I bought an 03 Cobra for my new Hot Rod. Impressive car but I never liked the seating position and I hated the six speed in town and at the track. Plus I couldn't drive it anywhere and have a beer because my wife wouldn't drive it. So I started rethinking about a Hot Rod Mark VIII. So after researching I bought a Crossfire SRT-6 for my DD and planed to sell the Cobra and make the Mark VIII my Hot Rod. Well I liked the Crossfire even though it was a little cramped for someone 6'1" but my wife hated it and wouldn't drive it even though it was an automatic so again no beer. Plus it got worse gas mileage than it was suppose to and worse than the Mark VIII. So I sold the Crossfire. I miss it a little. The Mark was getting where it needed a lot of work. At the same time they came out with cash for clunkers and I wanted to help get the economy going. So I traded the Mark on a new Fusion. Well I missed the Mark VIII and it ate at me that what I really wanted was to retire that Mark VIII to being a Hot Rod and find another clean low miles Mark VIII for a DD. So now I have a Mark VIII hot rod and a Mark VIII DD. But I have more cars than I need. I want to sell the Fusion but the wife doesn't want me to. She doesn't want to be the only one with a 4 door forcing her to drive to most family functions. She has a Buick Regal GS.

Originally looking at a nineties Caprice with the LT1. Couldn't find any in good shape reasonable priced on short notice, so I looked at Mark VIIIs.

my first car was a 95 mn-12 and thats what ive only driven....im on my 3rd Mark VIII right now....if I was to change course I would go with the newer mustang...the 4.6 or the coyote whichever one is cheaper.

I've had most of the cars listed in this thread LOL, but instead of a Caprice, I had a Buick Roadmaster wagon (same platform and LT1 engine)

Before the Mark, I was looking around for a Supra MKIII (the generation before the last ones) because I grew up around one. The good ones were still a little pricey so I ended up with this car instead.

In my first job at age 15 my boss had one in dark blue with BBK wheels. That thing was gorgeous. I always wanted one but I got over it within a couple years. I wouldn't get caught dead in one of those now.

This is what I drove from about January 25th to maybe late April. I was dying to find a Mark in good shape and everything around here was crap. I started out wanting a Z3, really wanted but couldn't afford a CL500, and decided there just weren't any decent Marks so I stopped looking. The owner of the Aviator got back to me after being on vacation and I decided to check it out. Like the Marks, all of the Aviators I looked at were beat to hell. Being a fan of the 4.6, I thought it might suffice. This one was monster clean, had 60k miles and was a 2004. It had the most amazing THX sound system I have ever heard in any stock vehicle. It had every bell and whistle including adjustable pedals, which I adjusted... once. Tow package, heated and cooled seats, which were enormously uncomfortable, and mileage as bad as a Class A motor home. I drove it mostly to run errands and that sucker constantly got 10 miles to the gallon. Then the '97 Mark showed up in Craigslist and I bought it several hours later. Avi stayed for a little while until I couldn't stand the Mark being outside, though covered. Avi left and the Mark moved very permanently into my heart. This is my second. I owned a Blk/blk '97 with Octi's and moonroof, just no heated seats in 1999. Had to sell it and it tore a hole in my heart that is now filled. ADORE these cars.

What a coincidence. That's exactly what I've been wanting to get for my wife as her daily driver for some time now. I'm torn to pieces over what decisions to make with my cars & I can't come to a concrete derision mostly because we don't have the cash to buy an Aviator.

In the last couple weeks I've come to realize neither of my current Mark VIII's are my toys. So I'm NOT really enjoying either one! What to do!

Buy her a fuggin' Escape or somrthing. Unless you really need a big suv thats horrible on gas. Last time I checked you didn't have any kids or anything either. Alex get with the program.

I owned a nice Cadillac just like the one on the top of this page. Sold it 2 years ago with only 61,ooo miles. I just think it's like comparing apples to oranges. If it's front wheel drive, it's not a race car. It's nice & fast but i's meant to go out to a restaurant, not a speedway.

Please tell me non of you like these new front wheel driving Toyota racemonkeys! Those cars are a disgrace. they look like they're going backwards with the slicks up front. They make me sick!

I agree but she doesn't like those small SUV's. I've tried very hard at convincing her but she doesn't dig 'em. Did I mention she drives 1.3 miles total p/day (5 days/week)? Then the car sits on weekends. She alternates between my truck & my black Mark.

Reason I like the Aviator is if we need to go somewhere that the family is included, we always go in multiple cars because NO ONE likes sitting in the back of our Mark VIII's.
