Just picked up a '94 mk8 with 145k on it. I got it for the woman to daily. Now it's been sitting for a while (I'm really not sure how long). What should I do to it as I know it hasn't been on the road in a while?

Change the oil and beat the piss out of it?

Concidering what I paid for it, I'd rather not do that. I know to change the oil, gonna check the trans fluid (the level and color/smell) and change the antifreeze. Besides that just a massive cleaning of the interior/exterior.

I was just wondering if anything mark-specific should be check.

You mean like the Air Ride?
Any issues there will be pretty self-evident...

a 94 with 145k considering what you paid for it, being 16 years old with 145k i hope you didnt pay alot!

first thing i would look at is the trans fluid, plugs and wires, the front suspension especially, brakes, then beat the piss out of it!

Why does everyone want me to beat the piss out of it? Lol I kinda like the car!

I when I bought mine almost 2 yrs ago I put new air springs in and beat the piss out if it. And it still will get a daily flogging up to 80 mph!

4.10's, T-Lok and a J-mod and be amazed at the difference. After that find an early 93 computer or get a chip.

he said the wifey is gonna drive it, trac loc and gears wtf???? lol i think she'll be happy as is! beating the piss out of it is being sarcastic!

My wife likes to drive mine;)

The car will see the spare set of 3.73's, and my old t-lok. It'll get the j-mod once I see the condition of the trans.

Sell it and buy a mustang.

Seeing as I already have a 500hp turbo'd fox, I'll pass on that :)

Why bother finding the early computer and then chipping it? Code is code and you can write the same code to a 94-95 ECU that you can to a 93. The 93 only has more timing at tip in.... thats pretty much it.

I'm going to be switching the mustang from the SCT chip to a stand alone system. Would the chip work in the mark? Also can you do gear corrections on the chip or would I need a new speedo gear?

From what I understand no top speed limiter, no rev limiter, more aggressive timing, better shift points etc (very early 93). That is why I said one or the other, not buying the 93 computer and then chipping it.
Kind of the same reasons 5.0 guys were always on the lookout for A9l or A9P (auto) for their foxes.

You need a speedo gear on yours.

The chip itself can work but would need to be re-burned for the Mark. EVERYTHING is different.

Sorry, thought you were saying buy a 93 computer and chipping it.

As for the speed limiter..... bet most Marks cant hit 140 anyway or would run out of steam within a couple MPH of it.
The timing advance is in the tip in. Later Marks pull a couple degrees at tip in..... 93s advance 21*
As for the rev limiter, I dont know so couldnt say. One thing I can say is a rev limiter is a good thing on fast cars, not a bad thing.

Really?? 140 not realistic?
no B.S, I thought most if not all properly running Marks would hit that when the gov is turned off.

I have seen that number serveral times since i chipped it.

By most Marks I meant most Marks left out there. At their age and state of care I would bet most peoples base second gens and 94-95 cars couldn't hit their speed limiter any more.

I am not saying yours or most people on heres Marks. Most people here know their cars and take care of and maintain them so their cars can prolly still hit their limiters.

The non LSC cars had a 140 limiter and those are the cars that I say (on average) are too weak to hit that limiter now, again, present company excluded.

i think base 8's were limited to 133mph. i hit mine once and it was still pulling nicely.

anyone know what unlimited top speed was?

i would guess mine could of done mid 140's without limiter
