Care ahs 136k running good. Is there a reason i should just switch now? I get oil changes about every 2500 miles. Lemme know ur thoughts.GOt all plugs and coils don at 117K.

You can switch anytime you want to, and you can switch back to semi-synthetic later anytime you want as well.

If you are running the Motorcraft Semi-Synthetic you should be doing 5K oil change intervals.

What oil are you running now that you want to change every 2500 miles? Or did you just get the car and are doing that a few times to help flush the engine out?

That's 5K or 6 months, whichever comes first. Maybe he is only doing 5K miles a year?

I have a question. History: I've changed the oil with Mobil 1 full synthetic ever since I got the car, March 2011. Never set the trip to zero between intervals, have been relying on the message center, but it seems like every 3-4 months. Question: motor craft oil last longer than "after market" oil?

sure the OEM synth-blend can outlast cheap crap oil, and there is also full synth that can out last the blend.

Mobil 1 lasts longer than the Motorcraft semi-synthetic. Be aware that the oil change indicator does not detect or measure the oil's condition in any way. It's just a simple combination timer and mile counter. It will give the same interval regardless of what oil you put in.

Yep. The GM ones throw engine usage into the algorythm (more highway miles, longer interval), but it's all crap. I wish there was a way to disable that pain in the @$$ system.

Man, I think he gives my 84 year old grandma a run for her money... or more like a slow, painful, creep for it... LOL

Well, certainly won't hurt it.

Just checked..... The message in my wife's just displayed. It's been just under 6 months and around 1400 miles.

switch at anytime but go back to 5k intervals don't know why you shorting it down to half. I personally use motorcraft synth blend just like ford recommends for this car.

Immediately if you don't mind the added cost. Today's synthetic oils are amazingly advanced, Mobil 1 Extended Performance can last up to 15,000 miles (in certain vehicles) and give outstanding wear protection.

This site lists the best oils, based on actual testing for things like load/wear protection, it's a great read:

If you have higher mileage and want to switch just watch all your seals. Synthetic flows better and gets into places conventional oil can't, so you may get a leak. I've personally seen this happen on a few Harleys already.

I started using Mobil 1 synthetic on both my LSs when I got them. I do not know what was used in them before. My 02 had 19K, and my 06 has 58K. No problems on either.
