Torrie at www.fastpartsnetwork.com is the guy for the LS. He does Quik's SCT programming.

whatever's easier for you, I'm interested. If you chat with him and want to have him give me a call or email that's fine or you can send me his info. Thanks Jon!

I also have a guy donw the street who also tunes and sells them ....he has a bunch in his office....so if anyone still isnt having any luck....

Pardon my ignorance, but what exactly do you mean by tune? How do you decide what tune to get?

I had James @ RWTD do my LS tune though I wouldn't reccomend them if they held a gun to my head. The tune itself was great! The customer service and timeliness of delivery are horrid! RWTD is the best and worst tuner I have known. I know you probably werent thinking about them as even a possibility being that they tune more Mustangs than anything else. Just putting it out there.

Red LS - The tune they refer to is the computer tune. It changes certain things such as advancing spark timing to take advantage of higher octane fuel, different shift points and shift firmness for either auto or SST mode and eliminating the speed limiter. Many other things can be changed too but those are the usual ones people do.

Do you have to set up every little thing or are there pre-made programs out there.

If the tuner tunes those types of vehicles a lot then chances are that they have a tune or two laying around that all they got to do is change the computer code on the tune and send it off. That only applies for simpler tunes on cars with light mods.

Tunes are developed from scratch too. Being that RWTD doesnt tune many LS's James had to create the tune from a base LS file and modify the perameters from there.

This might be a dumb question but i've always wondered it. So say I get the xcal and hook it up. Then take it out of my car, does the tune stay in the car or do you HAVE to have the unit plugged in. I was wondering if there was any way a fellow owner could just upload the tune to my (or others) LS. Sorry if its my stupidity, never seen one of these in use. Thanks

The xcal flashes the computer and then once fully flashed (10-15 minutes) the Xcal can be unplugged and taken out of the car. I dont quite understand what you meant about another owner uploading a tune, but one thing I will mention. Once an xcal is used to program a vehicle it becomes VIN locked to that vehicle and cannot be used to program an other vehicles. Once that same car is reprogrammed back to stock by that same xcal and then the xcal unlocked through liveload, extremetune, or advantage (all SCT tuning softwares) then you can use it one another vehicle. An Xcal can only be used for one vehicle at any one time. That is why I own two xcals. One to tune the Explorer and the other to tune my 05 LS.

im clueless about these things as well... are they worth the money?? and what do you gotta do to get a tune, just supply your VIN?

So could you clear the xcal and reload another car to that same unit. Then upload it to the new car and clear it back to the other. I probably sound real stupid just wondering. id like to have it done and just wondering if you HAVE to buy the unit

Yes they are worth it. You actually would have your tuner or vendor send you the Xcal and then follow the directions to read the strategy code from your cars computer via the Xcal. Then once you do that you email your tuner the 7 digit code and they will bounce those 7 digits off of a 4 digit computer database of the cars. Once your base program is found for that year and model of LS then the tuner will modify the base tunes perameters to increase timing etc etc... After thye do that they will email you your tune file. For the PTEC computer that the LS's and other PTEC using vehicles the filesize will be 1mb. You then take the file and hook the xcal to your computer via USB. Then connect to the xcal through one of the programs I mentioned above and then program the tune onto the unit. After that is done then your ready to program the car with the tune that you just put on your xcal. The xcal becomes locked to the vehicle by VIN # but you dont have to supply the VIN to the tuner.

No, it becomes locked to that car and cannot be used for any other car till it is unlocked. It is SCT's way to kill the possibility of people pirating the use of xcals.

Most xcals go for about $375 new, but I have seen some go for as low as $300. I got mine brand new in the box and never used for $210 but I found a hookup through a well known modular engine builder.

how much hp does it add, approx...

It all depends on the tune and how you want your tuner to set the timing, torque control and other things. Between 10-20rwhp is a good rough number to use though. Like I said, it all depends on the specifics too.

With the 03+ LS's we gain a lot more throttle control back too. That comes from turning torque control off in the TBW maps.

so where can you get the program you need on your computer to be able to get the file onto the XCal?

Go HERE and download the xcal2 drivers and also the extremetune or liveload software.

Note: If your tuner gives you the file in .xtr format then use extremetune to load the file to your xcal.

If your tuner sends your tune in .ll3 format then use liveload to load the tune to the xcal.

ok boys. tuner said around $330. he will tune them at his shop, and ship them out. if you are interested, pm your vin numbers and i can forward the pcm codes on to him.
