Looking for suggestions on where to take the Mark to get an assessment on damages since it was the 3rd car hit in a 4 car accident this past Thursday.

My rear bumper has paint chipped away at impact points & no longer sits flush with the trunk lid since it was hit hard and pushed down which also popped the bumpers left panel out of placement, front bumper only paint chipped from hitting driver ahead. However, ever since cpu reads low coolant and rattle from underneath when going over bumps.

Guy's insurance offers to cover everything and suggest i take it to this place called Collision Revivsion fix my car with their network of body & mechanic shops and give me a rental until finished or cut me a check after estimating damages, but I'm leaning more towards taking to the Al Piemonte Ford dealership and lettin them have at it since they presumably would know more about the Mark.

Have them fix it, take the money(should i expect much for 15 yr old w/72k?), or take it to Ford who might just milk the ins?

Thnx

The dealer WILL milk the Ins.. go get estimates... demand payout from the insurance... then bring it to me

And stop tail gating ...your front wouldn't have damage if you didn't stop up someones a$$

Most people don't know that when you come to a stop behind someone, you should still be able to SEE their back tires...not SMELL them

I would love to take a trip and take it to one of you more experienced guys in Florida or Texas to help with whatever yous can and if i recall correctly, Waco is usually on route when i drive to my birthplace in El Paso.

I wasn't tailgating as I always keep a space about the length of the Mark ahead of the driver in front so i can inch up if someone pulls up behind too close, but they usually don't get the idea and inch up with me. :( My foot just came off the brake when i got slammed into and thrusted forward. I think that if i were all up on the girl's ass, the front would be more damaged considering that the front of car 1 & rear of car 2 were totally compromised. I got lucky.

Maybe I should upload some pics to better illustrate the blemishes.

Good luck it will probably be totaled if has rear and front damage. It wont take much to do it to these cars. You may have to fight to get what you want for it or to get it fixed right. Some of the shops I've worked for will try to skimp on things to save money for you but it can cost you in quality of work. Just go to someone you trust that is not a dealer, someone that will let you come and make a random checkup on the car while they are working on it.

Go get a high estimate, cash the check, fix it at your leisure.

It all depends how much you like it though. If you just want it over with get it fixed, If you want some money in your pocket and don't care what it looks like then just "throw it" back together.

If that happened to mine i'd have them fix it though, my f+r bumpers have seen better days. But if they were to give me say......2k and the car was still driveable, i'd leave it as-is and go buy a new 50" flatscreen and a bed.

Hey I see you're from Franklin park..I used to live in Schiller park..but currently in Arlington hts, there's a few collision revisions around me now..one is down the street from my house, and I've had 3 repairs done there with different cars..they actually did a good job estimating and fixing my car each time, matched the paint well. Over the spring I had my bumpers hood and trim painted on my car when I swapped to LSC bumpers and had a guy in palatine paint it for me, he was recommended by my friend who had his 6 series bimmer painted after it was keyed and did an awsome job on mine and his..paint matches perfectly on both cars..he primarily does high end cars (BMW, Benz, audi, Porsche etc..) so you know the customers are picky..I would recommend him if you're looking for a good body shop...his place is called A&L auto body.

Alright!

Well, i got an estimate of $1400 through a visual inspection at Collision where the inspector offered to cut me a check right then and there. I would've taken the money that moment but then the inspector tossed the idea into my head that I might get more if I have a body shop take a closer look by removing the bumper covers since the guy at Collision thinks that there may be damage to the rear panel.

However, $1400 is pretty good considering i paid 3k cash for this Mark and is still operates the same as usual.

Instead of trying to milk the insurance, i should take it now and do it myself since it doesn't seem all that bad and put the rest of the $ into the other Mark that is getting upgraded.

Thanks to everyone so far for your opinions, including the weak attempt at lecturing me on stopping distance, I appreciate every bit of input!

I'd have another shop check it out..you would be surprised how fast you would spend that $1400 on either fixing the bumpers (which it will need because they are guaranteed cracked where the impact was) or replaced, then painted. And that's not inclusive any damage that may have occurred behind the rear bumper.

insurance companies will suggest you take it to X shop...that is only a suggestion that shop might give them a break on labor or w/e...but you can take it to the shop of your choice if insurance tells you otherwise then its called steering and illegal...

In New Jersey if you rear end someone, its your fault. Period. No matter what the circumstances and conditions.

Take it to the dealer. + 10000000
