Which Chip?

Funny part was everyone *including myself now* starting chiming in.

For the intake - > above 3000rpm on the highway I love the whistling sound, feels more powerful.

For the chip -> not gonna see full results until I do my exhaust and 02s.

I have done a little preliminary research and have come across the Superchips MAX Micro Tuner.

I used the MaxMicrotuner on my 98 LSC for about a month
( I borrowed it from a friend)

I used it in the time between getting my SCT package transferred from my first gen to my second gen.

It did a great job for a stock car and I was very pleased with the shifts and the cars performance.

If you look on www.mark8.org for username Stone17 he has the device that I had on my second gen.
You might be able to talk him into selling it for ALOT LESS than what you will pay for a new one.

I think MSRP on them is 350ish if I'm not mistaken.
Stone17/glen might sell it for half of that.

ive got an xcal 2 with a tune from dennis swinehart..uh..reinhart. Didn't really notice much with power but the shift characteristics alone were worth it! Even dennis told me to put the thing on a dyno for real gains.

then how come so many people complain about their chips? id never get a chip w/o it on a dyno. have read too many horror stories.

Geno is right BUT
a. since every car is different running your car on a dyno will be able to fine tune your car. Mail order tunes do come from running a similar make and model on the dyno but are usually a little more on the safe side because of the differences between cars. and
b. who does the tune makes difference. Any Joe Smoe can buy what the need from SCT/Diablo/etc and start trying to sell tunes over the internet or put and add in the back of a magazine. It doesn't mean the tune will give you any power or worse cause problems. I got my Xcal from Lonnie @ BOC and am happy. Geno and Lidio are a couple others I would feel confident getting a tune from.
c. :q:q:q:q happens parts can be bad, programs can have errors, the car could have been neglected and cant keep up with the new tune. Doesn't mean the tune is bad or the guy doing the programing sucks. I got a new tune from Lonnie for the 4.10s before he moved his shop and the serial number was wrong in the file so it would not load into the Xcal. As soon as Lonnie could he had a new tune emailed to me and followed up to make sure it worked. Honest mistake and he corrected it without a hassle to me. I still wouldn't hesitate to recommend him.
