Both. Let the SCT guy know what kit and settings you have. Basically they will optimize the shift points and clutch circuit pressure at the shifts.

these trannies aren't like the old ones where everything is mechanical, if you get a shift kit you'll feel it but won't be able to use it to its potential until you get the computer programmed

Stop doing downshifts, 4-2, 2-1. The one-way clutch doesn't like. If you need to drive the car like it has a stick, no 4R70W will last unless you have the mechanical diode as offered in the '98, which, btw, is the reason I have a '98.

I actually don't manually shift the car or hard drive it,but the new tranny is from a 98 so I can go ahead and start.

I know several cars with J-mods or shift kits that RIP without a chip or reflash. The computer programming adjusts when the shift points happen and the lockup of the converter along with the option to increase clutch pressure. With my shift kit(even without the chip) it was night and day.

Feel it?! You'll not only feel it you'll hear it when the 1-2 shift rips the tread off the tires at WOT. You'll love it!
