Why is this Mark worth so much?

This is what the seller had to say when I questioned him about the Mark he was selling.

Well I guess it goes to show you how much the so called ''experts''
at LVC really don't know.

I have had some expierence with the person in question before. And GMAN, it seems yours is the same as mine. My only advice is to, Not let him bother you. :)

Mike

He was asking for $25k on the forum he hangs out at - Here are a few comments they made about his asking price:

I think you should sell what you are smoking and you can make more money.

No offense... but there's no way you're going to get 25k for that car. Didn't sandy only get 20k for his CE a couple years ago?

and the seller's response:

No offense taken, like I said, I'm not interested in selling unless I get a high price. I know it's a very high asking price but hey, nothing ventured... etc. I've been offered 18K but I turned it down, I figured there is nothing interesting out there for 18 so why bother. I'm in no rush.

Oh - and it doesnt come with any of the trophies or plaques he's won from what I understand.

Eh - he's entitled to ask for anything he wants. Thats his right. I pity the fool who falls for his well put together marketing job because, in the end I dont think its anything more then a car with almost 60k miles, that has been taken pretty good care of. There was a 1993 mark viii not long ago with like 10k miles and I think they only wanted $15k for it and it never sold.

But - he's entitled. If he sells it, more power to him, cause the buyer becomes the bigger idiot IMO.

yea...the car is a perfect example of what a flawless Mark VIII would look like. I guess the owner was only going to sell it if he could find someone willing to pay what HE thinks its worth.

face it gang, you could call me a crack head 7 days of the week, but if someone wanted to pay me $25,000 for my 97 LSC, they'd get it!

The car has a history. It is a show winner. believe it or not, people pay top dollar for cars in that condition. Face it, where else would you find such a prime example of a mark VIII, if you were a collector.

I am sure he didnt expect a dime over $15k, but if folks want to bid, let them.

BTW, anyone see that 3200 mile 98 CE on ebay a while back? THAT was worth more!

i can agree with you craig about how it is in pristine condition, without a doubt very sharp looking car i give it to him. but come on you are very knowledgeable about the marks and performance of these cars, but agree with me on this one. he is producing "more" than 330 HP out of the car with just air and chip mods? give me a break. that is why he is a BS artist!

No doubt it is a nice car. That said, when you are on ebay, one always has to look out for the private auctions. Especially for a car like this. First auction ended at about $8000 and then the second one hits over $16,000. Hummm.

1st auction ended with a deadbeat bidder when it the auction didn't even hit reserve. Hmmm again.

Now the price doubles? Hummm.

Like MarkVIII Mike said, watch out for bids being artificially pumped. Easy to do with a private auction.

As for his comment, WE may not know alot about Lincolns over here, lmao, but we will attempt to protect our members when and if possible.

Personally, if he can get the price he wants, more power to him. It is a free market. Anybody can ask any amount they want. Go for it.

BUT, daily driven in the salt/snow of Long Island New York? :Bang

$25K? Heck you could almost buy a '98 brand new for that money with the rebate back in '98.

you know what i suspect bryan, is that maybe this guy friends or someone he knows is bidding on the car to "jack-up" the price? very weird!

It was bid up to $18,600 and didn't even meet the reserve! I guess the owner really wanted to keep the car.

Wow, it is over $18K and still not met the reserve.

I paid $8K for rmy 98 LSC (70K) that was in perfect shape, just needed a cargo net - even just had the blend door repaired.

Show cars are a world of their own. I have a couple T-birds I could never part with based on the street value, as I have way to many blood hours invested in them. It would be fun to see what they might bring on ebay but I have better things to do than waste my time and some poor bidders hopes.

he was "testing the water"....he wouldnt let it go for less than $25k.

you know what? I dont blame him. Its his car, and if someone was willing to pay that much for it, let them.

A man asking an absurd amount of money for his property is only absurd if he is desperate to sell, and asks too much. otherwise, the absurd one, would be the man willing to pay that amount.

FWIW, you can buy/build a Mark VIII with 350+ RWHP, and have it end up in BETTER condition for less than $25k. But there are people out there willing to dump money due to that "I want it now" outlook.

scenario-rich man wants a modern day "show car" that he doesnt have to do ANYTHING to....he can blow $35k.
His associate sees the Mark VIII in question. Rich man says "wow...I always wanted one of those....lets deal".

case closed.

Joey...yea, 330hp is just wrong. Hopefully anyone willing to spend over $16k on a Mark VIII would know that, and either get over it, or pass.

BTW, anyone here willing to pay me $16k for our prisitine 97 LSC? I know, its asking way too much, but believe me...if someone was willing to pay me that amount, SOLD.
