Why not front wheel drive?

"Why not front wheel drive?"

I thought we were about to get into a debate as heated as the pressurized/unpressurized ordeal.

There is no debate... FWD sucks under any and all situations!

I love Koenigsegg. It's one of my dream manufacturers and the CCX is one of my dream cars. However, FWD sucks ****..

just...eww..

I have been driving in Minnesota for 40 years and have never owned a front wheel drive car. I just don't like the driving dynamics of them. American made rear wheel drive and a stick attracted me to the LS.

Had a 93 Cougar V8 in Maryland. Drove it down the long side of Virginia during the March 94 blizzard. I passed many front wheel drive cars and many 4x4 trucks on that trip. Only had problems at one time, when leaving a gas station I couldn't see a road divider for the snow and wound up getting stuck on it. 10 minutes with an entrenching tool and I was on the road again. The trick is to know how to drive in the snow.

Biggest problem with front wheel drive in the snow is it lets people who have no business getting on snowy roads get their cars moving. Then when it's time to stop they wreck. When you're going too fast for the snowy road in FWD, the solution to regain control is to speed up. If you're already going too fast this is no good unless you really know what you're doing. The only thing wrong with 4x4 is people stupidly think that 4 wheel drive also means 4 wheel stop, when on ice it really means 4 wheel slide.

I really wish I had that Cougar back again, although I don't miss the stupid automatic headlights.

True,true.....the rear wheel drive is just fine when you put some weight in the trunk, especially. Now my MUSTANG............that is NOT true for it. It does not do well in the snow at all. don-ohio :)^)

Weight in the trunk? Never bothered. The only thing I've ever put weight in the back for traction was my 2WD S10, only because it was so light in the back that I could grab the bumper and pick the rear off the ground. Doubt I could still do that though.

No, it's all skill, no wonky little tricks like weight in the trunk.

Those aren't wonky lil tricks,Telco. Weight distribution running in snow is EVERYTHING. That's also why 70 lb. tubes of sand are sold to redistribute weight. The distribution is why the Mustang spins out and doesn't get good snow traction.Too much weight is in the front. Makes for good steering though,if the rear will follow and not skid all over the place. Need weight over the rear tires. don-ohio :)^)

if its problem was that it was too nose heavy, then it wouldn't take much weight to bring it to a perfect 50/50 for any SN95 mustang and even less for S197, and even less for a V6, but you said adding weight doesn't help at all. seems to point to your problem being somewhere else.

You need a pic of my 05 V6 RED convertible I bought with 67K miles? Looks just like any other GREAT AMERICAN car with its shiny mag wheels and glossy paint.
I've put 35K on it unpressurized, and it's like new. It's under a waterproof car cover as we speak, but I WAS thinking of driving it to work tomorrow. If I can ever figure out how to post a pic,I will. don-ohio :)^)

Cough coughskillhack cough..

I've only ever had one RWD that had snow and ice problems, and that was my old S10 pickup. I've only had a few FWD, most of the vehicles I've ever had were either RWD or an occasional 4x4.

I'd venture to say that my driving experience of 49 years has developed much more skill than you may EVER have,Telco. I have driven fuel tankers for Marathon and Sohio, now BP. I have driven in ALL kinds of weather. The blizzards of the mid to late 70s were very difficult to deliver fuel oil and gas in. Not many companies even tried.
So remember that word ASS-U-ME.........you are assuming a false idea. don-ohio :)^)
