Last night I was on the way home from the bar and this idiot kid in daddy's CTS wanted to horse around at the stoplights, since I had a couple of beers I didn't want to deal with the cops (I was still ok to drive). So at all the stoplights that I launched at I beat him off the line and started to walk away but stopped at 45mph. Later he was trying to horse around from 50+ but I knew cops hung out in that area and I had to turn so I didn't even bother. So my question is will the marks hang with the CTS's with the V8 or was I racing a v6. I have a 97 lsc fyi.

Thanks guys

A well running Mark VIII should run neck and neck with one. I've seen them as fast as 14.6's, I ran the same.

The 3.6 will be close. My ETC puts about the same distance on a Mark as it does a 3.6 CTS (haven't run a CTS directly against the Mark.) The 3.2 will lose, the 2.8 will also lose. Naturally, the V will smoke the :q:q:q:q out of us.

If any of you lose to a POS ETC there is something wrong with your cvar those things are slow I eat up my friends no problem FWD V8 lmao grow some balls

Thanks guys I thought I could handle a V8 but wasn't sure of what they were rated at.

A stock northstar ETC WILL walk any stock Mark VIII. Considering mine is stock and has beaten 3 Marks (my 94, my friends 96, and a 96 LSC.)

And I will put trainlengths on anything your sorry ass owns.

ETC at the track today. Watched him as I considered having a true Lincoln vs. Cadillac show down and they are supposed to be good compitition for a Mark. I had my LSE not my Mark but non the less. Watched him run probably 10 times with a best of 15.8 mostly he ran 16.0 with 90mph range. He seemed to be driving it to its potential. Wasn't worth my time. It apeared stock but did have a open filter.

i have driven a couple of northstars and I can say that i wasnt impressed. My g-pa had a DTS with one in it and my cougar with the 4.6 was faster than it in the little stretch outside my house that i run. It's around a quarter mile maybe less but still.

thats only relevant if there was a mark running too. those times are VERY slow for an etc.

as for the cts...we can run any but a V. too bad they have the reliability of your average GM POS.

Funny, that's what my stock ETC ran (16.001 @ 89.95) in the middle of summer at a 5320' elevation track. 8000ft. density altitude. Either that was not a northstar or something was wrong with the car or driver.

For comparison, my Mark VIII ran 15.91 @ 90.3 - but it had to have 6300' density altitude to do it. At 6300' DA, the ETC should've pulled 15.5 @ 93.

I agree. Thats why I watched it run several times as I expected it to get better after he cooled and ditched the girlfriend. But he seemed to launch quite well and move down the track well...just never turned a good time. Never seems to be any caddys at my track. There was a Gen1 MarkVIII there I would have liked to run against it but it was in the pits but not racing and looked stock anyways so that wouldn't have been to fun.

Dont know the specs on them besides some are 275 some 300. It was a Eldo for sure, did they have non Northstar models and what do they have? Like I said he was driving it well or not bad enough to kill a whole second.

The Northstar Caddies are not faster stock for stock than a well running Mark VIII, the only thing they have over us is stock 3.73 gearing. You can have your 3.73 gearing and keeping your oil burning, head gasket leaking engines, i'll stick with my Ford 4.6 DOHC motors.

^And you also can stick with your poor build quality of the Mark compared to the Eldo. 300hp > 280hp and 290hp (even though the early 280hp Marks outrun the 290hp LSCs.) Thus 300hp with 3.71 gearing will go faster, being that the weight is with 50lbs.

My ETC burns 1qt every 4k or so, thanks to the very aggressive crosshatch pattern of the cylinder walls for better high RPM lubrication. They will burn more if you baby them and allow carbon to buildup on the rings, fortunately I exercise my rings all the time. My Mark leaks about 1qt every 1k right now actually...

I change my coolant on schedule. Thus, my factory headgaskets are still intact.

I own both and I love both cars, but for different reasons. I know what I'm talking about. I'll say it again: If the ETC was RWD and/or had the aftermarket following that the Ford 4v has, I would never have bought a Mark VIII.

92 model year Eldos had the 200hp 4.9L, and 93 base Eldos did as well. 15.8 would be an excellent time for a 4.9, but if he was driving it well and the air was good it's perfectly plausible.

My Mark has 117k on it and doesn't use any oil between oil changes nor does it leak a drop. Those caddys are always leaking oil. Besides Real men don't spin their front tires!:D

Could be. All I know is what I saw and I wouldn't know the difference I guess.

i got 162k on my mark 8 and it runs stronger then my 03 dodge ram hemi 5.7, and i thought my truck was fast!

Dude, what's up with you and 90's Northstar caddies... they ain't all that... is there even one of them in the 13's NA?

hey you got say that eldorados are equally matched in power with the mark VIII. stock for stock, its a drivers race. there are plenty of mark VIIIs that can beat a eldorado stock for stock

mine being 1 of them?

I own one, and I know how they're built and what they are and are not capable of.

And no, none are in the 13s N/A - because like I said there is no aftermarket. If you want to make one fast, you can do an exhaust, get a mail order chip, have a custom stall converter & LSD made, and that's ALL you can do without running nitrous like I did, or making custom parts (bored TB, custom turbo setup even...)

I merely mentioned that a CTS puts up as good a fight against my ETC as my Mark does, because I have never directly raced a CTS in my Mark but I have in my ETC. You guys are the ones who took it from there.

ETC's are barely faster than a Sedan Deville dude I have been inside an eldo that raced a sedan deville twice once from 35 and once from a dig the eldo had one car length on him by 90 when they raced from a dig and one car by a pathetic 110 when they raced from 35 and the deville got on the gas then let off then got back on again I'm sorry to burst your bubble Medium but those cars are slow and if you can get a stock one that can beat my car ill put my title on it saying I will win anyday.... Oh yeah and when I raced the deville from 35 It wasnt even a race lmao by the time I hit maybe 60 I had 2 cars on him And I am completely serious about the Title thing I don't like talking :q:q:q:q over the internet so go get one bring it down to FL and if your so confident you can take my car home

I guess I just have a factory freak ETC then.. or my friend and I have 2 really slow Mark VIIIs, because what happened, happened.

Exactly what do you have KainDTE, and is it stock?
