Ok, check this out. The direct fit kit sold on ebay for the Mark VIII, Thunderbird and Cougar is anything but direct fit. The :q:q:q:qing thing isn't even close. I spent 8 hours cutting and welding (and I have alot more respect for dudes who work at exhaust shops now) I had to extend here, shorten there, and get really creative to make it all come together. That being said:
Straight pipe, they sound like a nascar (stock cats and resonator in place) Not lincolnish at all IMO. Now, I put on a set of flowmaster 40 series mufflers, with 2.5 inch pipe back to the resonator. It sounds good outside the car, but the drone is god forsaken between 1300-2200 rpm, right in the cruising speed range. I'm going to change something to try and kill that, but take away the drone and you'd have a nice exhuast. All I have left to do is transfer my tips, and at midnight the last thing I cared about was some chrome tips
