Will ignition coil work right?

There's a vendor selling 4 post Motorcraft ignition coils for about $30 a side. They say they are a replacement part for the Mark VIII, but the part number was incorrect.

It turns out, the part number is from late '90s 4 cylinder Ford engines, like the Escort or the Ranger.

Is this guy right, are they actually the same ignition coil, with a different number, but us V8 guys just need two? Or, as I would worry,does the 4 cylinder coil not generate as much power, mounts a little differently, or responds to the computer differently?
 
The 1993 Mark VIII is supposed to use a F1VY-12029 or, I think it's a DG449. That one says DG435?

The DG435 seems to be designed for application in the 4 cylinder fords from 89-02:

91-93 FORD All Models 4-140 2.3L SOHC

91-96 FORD All Models 4-116 1.9L

97-99 FORD All Models 4-1998 2.0L SOHC

00-02 FORD ESCORT 4-1998 2.0L SOHC

91-96 MERCURY All Models 4-116 1.9L

97-99 MERCURY All Models 4-1998 2.0L

89-92 FORD TRUCK All Models 4-140 2.3L SOHC
 
looks the same. not a horribly low price. i just paid $36/per for BWD coils yesterday. IDK how effective they were, but it sure couldnt hurt
 
Aftermarket coils seem to list the same coil for both the Mark VIII and the Escort. So, I took did some research on the Ford Motorcraft part numbers:


Escort Coil:
E9TF-12029-AA
E= 1980s
9= 1989
T=truck
F= engine accessory

12029= part number

AA- 27th upgrade of this part

BECK/ARNLEY Part # 1788222


1993 Mark VIII coil:
F1VY-12029 A
F1= 1991
V=Lincoln
Y=Lincoln/Mercury Sales Dept.

12029= part number

A= first version of this part

Any suggestions? If this is a go, I just found $25 Ford ignition coils that will last another 15 years. It looks pretty good to me right now.

I'm still not sure if this is a safe purchase or not.

Any chance that they won't generate quite as much spark?
 
I would go for it if you need new coils if the aftermarket part numbers match. A coil is a coil, after all.
 
What are the symptoms I might experience if my coils needed replacement?
Is there a condition where they need replacing, but haven't completely failed? Would it cause a miss or some periodic driveability problem?
