I was rolling up my window today after lunch and as it rolled all the way up I heard a breaking glass sound! :(
The motor still works and the window is still up. Did the window just break inside the door panel and all i need to do is replace the window? Or is something more?
HELP...Please

my window was doing that for about 2 weeks and then finally i went to roll it down and it would roll a little bit down then gravity would have to take it the rest of the way down.... so now i keep it in the up position

Same thing

My window did the same thing and I've been propping it up for weeks now. The funny thing is that I ended up starting up a conversation with a cute young lady last night in the parking lot who had a similar LS. Her window did the same thing! It must be a common problem.

If it's been remodeled, does anyone know if there is a particular part number for the new one??? This is the second time the same regulator has broken. The doggone dealership won't fix it for free since it's 1 month over the 1 year warranty they place on repairs???

It's a common failing on 1st generation LSes; if you do a search on "window regulator" you'll find a great deal of information. It used to be very expensive to fix, because you had to buy an entire assembly, but you can now buy the regulator itself; IIRC, it's around $60 (but I've never had to replace mine, so I'm not sure about the price). Contact Bill Jenkins at Team Ford (see their banner ad on the right side of the forum), and he'll take care of you.

5 Star just sold me a complete regulator/motor for a VERY reasonable price. Our car did the exact same thing as yours. It turns out it broke one of the plastic cable guides. It really isnt that hard to replace yourself.

I just replaced my driver side yesterday. Took about 30 minutes. I have taken the door apart many tomes, and could probably do it blind folded though.

Even the gen2 LS's aren't immune from the window regulator problem. My passenger rear needs to be replaced. Taking it in on Monday to solve that problem as well as the passenger seat back that has been hanging off for a month now. Also been hearing a "pop" from the passenger front wheel when I make a left turn (ball joint? tie rod?). Are these items covered under the manufacturer's warranty or is that considered general wear and tare?

I love my LS but my warranty is almost over (44,500 miles) and I fear the future of repair bills could hit me hard in the pocket book. Dealer has been talking to me about an extended warranty but I really don't have the cash for that right now....

I'm beginning to think this problem should be a sticky. I would almost advise someone purchasing a used LS to ask if the window motor has gone out yet b/c you know its going to!

Has anybody got the pics or instructions for a regulator replacement tech article? Sounds like one that might be needed.

If nobody has that together yet, I should be doing a passenger front regulator in the next month or two and will put one together.

i meant to take pictures when i did mine Tuesday, but never did.

If i get the time, i might take it apart and show everyone, since NO ONE helped me when i needed it.
