I can't find how to remove the window lift motor from the window mechanism anywhere on the net or in the books that I have. It's also pretty difficult to see in there. The problem is that my driver window doesn't work. But when I press the button I can hear the motor click and I can see the lights dim. So maybe the window is stuck in that position. It's been closed and parked in the sun for for years. I have already WD-40'd the mechanism. But I want to remove the motor only, to see if it runs when not connected to the mechanism.

At least yours does something when you hit the switch. I''m going to have to do this anyway so I'll take a look in my shop manual. I seem to remember reading about needing to drill holes in the three dimples near the motor to remove it though....

Once I finish my finals today I look at it. :) :Bang

Seems to be a fairly common problem among mark vii's, although it's not always the motor. Sometimes the contacts just need to be cleaned.

I have done this.

The motor is behind the wall. To get it out you have to drill into the 3 dimples at the bottom of the door. Behind them you find the bolts that mount the motor.

This is a very easy job.

I think I have an article at home I'll try and find it tonight!

Do a search on the web for a tech article called, "POWER WINDOW GEAR REPLACEMENT - OPTION 1" for information on your motor. Also, come back and tell us just how you repaired it.

I rebuilt the motor on my '90 LSC. Ford put plastic bearings these, and 90% of the time the problem is the bearings are worn. While I had the motor out, I went to the hardware store and got metal bearings to fit... Problem solved!

To change out an electric window motor on a Lincoln Mark VII is pretty easy and. First of all get the inside door panel off and take a look at the inner door skin. Most pieces will pop out a Phillips head screw driver will be needed to remove screws holding the seat controls and speaker. The speaker hole will be needed as access to the motor. Put your hand inside the door and locate the window motor.

Most of removing the window motor will be done blind, as you will need to feel between the door inner panel and the motor, to locate the heads of the screws that attach the motor to the window regulator assembly.

On the door panel you should notice a dimple. The sheet metal dimples are about 3/32" in diameter, and about 1/16" deep. There is one for each of the 3 screws that hold the window motor to the regulator. Not picture for location of dimples. Holes have been drilled already in the provided picture

You will need to drill a 1 / 2” to 5 / 8” hole to allow for an 8 mm socket to loosen and take out the 3 bolts that hold the window motor to the regulator. You may want to start with a small pilot hole to begin your holes and progress to the larger 1 / 2” bit.

Use the 8 mm socket to remove the three screws attaching the window motor assembly to the regulator assembly.

Trace the motor lead wire to the outside of the inner door panel, and disconnect.

Reach inside the door cavity and pull or lift the motor off of the window regulator assembly. Snake it out through the opening that you are reaching in through.

Replace the motor assembly into the door cavity and mount it to the regulator assay. I used electrical tape to help hold the screws to the 8 mm socket when I attached the new window motor.

Reconnect the electrical connection. You will need to cut the connector from the old electric motor and splice it to the new motor. You are done!

You will need to get new clips to re-attach the door covering panel back on the door.

Nicely done - mespock -- great picts --
the only thing I would add from my experiences is some cautions -
Have helper or some way to keep the glass from falling while your
digging around in the door -- pulling the motor removes guarantee
that window will stay up -- ( Been there -Had hand crunched )
next - make sure that you have correct alignment on the new motor --
when installing, the new drive gear does not always align with
the scissor gear and can make positioning quite difficult --
be ready to have an assistant push the glass down a little to
get the gears to align -- Next, make sure that you have the guide
bushings around the bolt holes seated in the mount bracket properly
( look at bolt hole area on the motor closely you will see the extended
guide bushing ) wiggle / rotate motor during install until you feel
it drop into position -- while holding it in place , install bolts --
Translaton = have everything right there within your reach when
reinstalling and as suggested , you have to have some way to keep bolt in the socket as you feed it through the door skin ( I use a blob of RTV ) or you will be quite fustrated at constantly having to dig the bolts out of the bottom of the door --
-- can get one bolt snug then release hold to install the rest
--Move slowly in there -- there are lots of razor sharp pieces parts
inside that door that will slice and dice you in an instant --
good luck

Black87LSC,

can you give me a pointer on what these darned bushings look like. I think I had two problems. I removed the motor and the glass didn't even budge. Isn't it supposed to freefall or something? Think it's because it remained unused for more than 3 years.
Whe I opened op the motor it was all disaster. Hundreds of small pieces of plastic, so brittle you can break them just by twisting them in you hands. The biggest piect was one quarter inch square. So I don't even know what shape they have. Is there a way you can find those bushings online? Do you remember the hardware store you bought those from, or what they look like? The motor itself is fine. I pulled it all apart and cleaned it, WD40'd it. As soon as I can reassemble it I'll grease it up.

Any help would be great thanks.
